Just got back from this and it was a great day all round - though I definitely think they could have publicised it better.

Turned out to be a good day for it, hopefully it will be repeated next year as a bigger event.
A lot of families and the like.
There was no 1798 or 1916 displays, that suprised me, i would have thought that would be a big area of interest, perhaps next year?

Very interesting event alright, the reserve defence force were really pushing recruitment - they were really pushing me to join (I'm a medic) - I dunno, I'll make enquiries...

I was disappointed that there was not more exhibits on display.

There are no problems getting the kids photos taken with the weapons.

Also every time civvies were handling the weapons the demo soldiers were performing safety inspections before and after use.

Weapons were not allowed out of sight and were not permitted to be stripped or reassembled.

You should also have noted that there was ALWAYS an instructor with the civilian when they were handling the weapon.

Its supposed to be a fun event and one to get the public closer to the military, I think the army stall although a little underwhelming was nevertheless well run and the members of the public that I spoke to really enjoyed it and profusely thanked us after bombarding the lads with questions which were answered honestly or else deffered to another member who knew the correct answer.

Our biggest concerns were some numpty stealing a weapon, or trying to strip something or little kiddies fingers getting chopped off by moving bits of metal!

thankfully no injuries reported and great weekend overall.

my understanding of it is that morpheus was referring not to the reinactors but the members of the RDF? I could be wrong of course....

I was talking about the Reserves, where I was one of the weapons instructors.

Absolutely. I heard about it in the Irish Times yesterday. Would have loved to go to it and the missus would even have approved me taking the kids too.....she tolerates my hobbies with good grace.

Lol i went to this had a great laugh, chatted with the RDF guys and decided to join up... Started all the paper work 2 weeks ago, now im just waiting on security clearance to come through.

Depending on how the RDF goes im thinking of joining the PDF, would wait till college is over and maybe make a career out of it.

Have to say the lads at the show were extremely helpfull.
