loonies on the road

I have done around 600miles in the last few days, kerry-cork-dublin and have seen some unreal crap on the roads.

1st almost rear ended a car on the naas n7 rd south bound, I was on the outside lane and keeping distance from the car ahead when all of a sudden there seemed like a massive urge for everyone to slam on the brakes. I was not travelling fast, maybe 30mph as the traffic was bad, but i had to swerve out to avoid a smack (no car coming behind), after driving on I saw the crux of the problem some car decided to stop on the fast lane of the n7 and casually step out, no hazard lights or nothing, i dont know did the car behind it rear end it or if other people were involved in a collision but the fact that nooone put on hazard lights just beggars belief. ignorant thick fcuks I think and they ovbiously have not learnt a thing from the fog incident.

Today en route home from cork to kerry a 05 hyundai with zero brake lights at all, I was noticed this after a while and was wondering was he miracously driving at such a pace as to not need braking but when he came to a junction my questions were answred. why would anyone with a newish motor not even have working brake lights.?

the rubbish seen on our roads is unreal.

Let's be honest - how often do we check our own brake lights? Or any other rear lights?

I never check any lights. I don't need to. The computer tells me the very instant any light fails

for our sprawling motorway metropolis the outer lane is commonly the 'fast' lane.;)

some cnut stepping out of their car with no hazard lights at all on this lane should not be fit driving car.

I believe you. Thousands etc. You also check tyres, brakes, fluid levels I bet. But realistically, what percentile are you in in this regard?

Unlike fluids, checking lights is more a matter of observation than actual effort.

I check bulbs etc at least twice a month.

Check fluids/oil weekly after giving the car a wash and/or coat of wax.

How close were you to the car in front if you had to swerve to avoid a collision at less than 30 mph?

I had a close encounter today. I don't wish to sound racist but it was with a non -national lady. She indicated to turn where I was pulling out, slowed down, so I took off. Then she jams on her brakes and gives me a dirty look.

Now the last time I checked (I know this is Ireland but...) you generally only indicate if

    1) You're pulling over
    2) You're making a turn

LEARN HOW TO USE INDICATORS. It's a basic courtesy!!

Bank Holiday weekend...no of close encounters on Day 1 of 3 (before noon) 1. 1 trip to visit grandparents nearly fatal. The look on the stupid cow's face...priceless

    Rant Over

I was always told when learning to drive some years back, never trust someones indicators, wait till you see they are actually turning in....

I'm sure you should do the same..

your ranting cus you pulled out in front of someone who was on the main road?
im sorry but looks like you were wrong.

she could have been pulling over after the junction.

where i live i get this all the time,i drive along the main road and have to turn left into the estate, but just before the turn there is a petrol station and when i indicate to turn in every now and again someone leaving the petrol station assumes im going in to it and pulls out in front of me.

so i guess the saying "assumption is the mother of all fcuk ups" would suit.

i never pull out to a main road till i see the wheels of the indicating car turning, mabey you should do the same

Your not suppposed to indicate if there is somewhere you can turn off before your actual turn off, especially where there is another road, your supposed to slow down and wait until your exit before indicating, your not supposed to indicate if theres another turn off before yours. Granted a petrol station is different.

but yeh as its been said never trust someone indicating and always wait until you see them slowing down and turning in as if she had hit you it probably would have turned out to be your fault

Yeah, you should never indicate if there's a chance it could cause confusion. Where I live is some apartments with an entrance just before a left hand filter lane, and almost everyone I see indicating for the lane looks like they're going into the apartments. Likewise, when I'm driving along and indicate for the apartments, people behind me assume I'm going into the filter lane and that I won't slow down as much as I do. Couple of people have beeped at me angrily cos of this too! Muppets! (and yes, my brake lights were working ;) ) As for the indicators, in an ideal world they'd be great, but all they really tell you is that the car's indicator is working. Nothing else.

    You got in one.

Indicators are a signal of intend and do not confer right of way.

Usually this is interpreted as that the person indicating does not automatically have right of way, but in this case, it does not confer right of way to anyone to pull out in front of them just because their indicator is on.
