    plz help,

i know its stupid but is there a chance if i go to m principle and ask her to let me into transition year and if i explain why she will let me,

when i chose what i was doing i was studying 4 the j-cert and convinced that i would be doing bst if i went straight in 2 5th yr, but since i felt i did ****e in the j-cert and i dont think im mature enough to go straight in so is there any of you who have done this and been accepted or am i just a fool for only realising my mistakes now

Unlikely you'll be let in at this stage

Classes, bands, streaming etc would already be organised, unless your principal is very nice and has a liking to you I think it is unlikely you will get in at this late stage

Well there's only one way to find out, try to get in contact with your principal a.s.a.p though. It may be too late but it depends on the school, and availability of places for forth year. I hope it works out for you.

i think i have a chance as i have heard stories of people in my school being aload in to it two months into the year, and the only reason my principle would keep me for a year longer is to play in his favourite sport.would it make a difference if im not well academically gifted,

oh yeah i go to dunboyne if anybody on this goes there or has gone there can give me advice

depends on your school, i know a few people who have gone about 2 weeks into 5th year and then decided to drop back to transition year.....no probs

I'm head of senior cycle where I work and that includes TY, LCA and standard LC.

Our classes have already been set out for September, but I expect a certain amount of jiggling about of classes when we go back - depending on a number of factors - people finding work, JC results, etc.. There are some limits though in terms of how many I can have in classes due to subject choice etc.

Of course my official stance would be that it is too late, but that's to stop people acting the goat and changing their mind repeatedly. Why I oughtta...shakes fist menacingly.

A good day to drop into the school would be around lunch time on the 15th - there should be a few management people about then. Good luck.

I say relax till you get your JC results, and think about it. I'd say your principal wouldn't be that fussed letting you back to TY after the 2nd week of September despite what a few are saying here.

would that be the 15th of august or september

I meant the 15th August - Leaving Cert. result day - by lunchtime most of the fuss will have died down and you can catch the Year Head or Principal for a chat.

People generally do better than they expect in the Junior Cert. (since the exam is designed for maximum success) but the maturity thing is another issue. An extra year will certainly do you no harm.

I dont think its too late trying to get into transition year. If you ask your prinicipal or whoever is in charge of it there shouldnt be any problem getting in. I mean 1 extra person isnt going to affect the logistics of the amount of people allowed into it? Is it? Doubt it.

I thought it was a really beneficial year. We got a head start in all our leaving cert subjects which will make 5th year easier but at the same time it was a great break from the normality of the dribs and drabs of school.

The only advice to you is that its a year that shouldnt be wasted and can be really beneficial to you in the long term if you want to put the work into it. If you dont then tis a waste of time really.

I really learned a lot about myself during the course of the year and made friends with people I usually was never friendly with before.

    Good luck anyway,

    James.

Try and find someone who wants to leave TY for 5th, and swap.
