Would it be anything to do with the 'new' line to Navan . It is planned to branch off after Clonsilla station to a new station called 'Hansfield' in and around Ongar.

The old Navan line used to split from the Maynooth line just after the Clonsilla platform. The working going on between Clonsilla station and the corner is to re-instate this line. They have cleared all the debris, are installing signals/etc, and putting down the new track. The line then crosses a bridge over the canal. There used to be a bridge there but it was removed and only the supports were left. Currently the line is being re-instated as far as pace just past Dunboyne but it needs to be extended sooner rather than later once the Pace section is finished.

Plan is to install the junction required for Dunboyne and Pace and to lay a short piece of track to the missing canal bridge and use it as a turnback siding.

The Dunboyne line has not been approved for construction yet.

This makes it easier to run more Clonsilla Docklands trains and should improve punctuality

any reason they didn't do that before docklands opened MarkoP11 or was it overstretch in IE Engineering?

When is the new stretch due to open?

Thought it was something like that but it doesnt appear that the track can go very fair.

Might go down and have a look tomorrow

The pressure was on to get Docklands open and as such the turnback siding was seen as non-essential extra. I think it would have stretched resources a bit to get it done at the same time.

It will mean that the trains that currently go empty Clonsilla-Maynooth and back will now be able to turn in Clonsilla (there are a few that are pathed too close to existing Maynooth services to turn in Clonsilla), and thereby as Mark states potentially improve frequency and reliability.
