all cars 4 years old or more are due nct tests every 2 years. so your definitely due 1 now. i can only presume you bought it recently.

You ring the nice people at ncts and arrange your own NCT. You don't wait for them to send it to you.

Thanks for the replies but i am aware off the procedure for NCT'ing a car.

My question is if i bought a car (1997 car) which had never "sat" an NCT test and i bring it to them then how long of an NCT will i get ?
So 4 years after 97, car should have gone for test in 01 and would have been issued a retest date of 03
then i 03 it would have got a 05 retest and then this year it would be issued a retest date for 09. so woul i be issued with a retest date for 09.

But If I went in before the date of first registration would it only be NCT'd till 07
ie. if I booked it in tomorro and its date of first reg wsa 1 dec 1997 then i believe it would get a NCT for the 1dec 2007 and then would have to get it done again. but if i brought it in on the 2 dec 2007 then i would be issued with a 09 retest date.
AM I CORRECT IN SAYIN THIS :o

    Yeah you're probably right.

    From their site:
Test Certificates will be valid for up to 2 years (from the date the test is due to the registration anniversary date two years later).
    Ring them though to clarify.

You are indeed right, however if the date of reg was 1 Dec 97, you could bring it in September and get a cert till Dec 09. You can present it 3 months early.

well the system was only brought in in '00 or '01 i think so the 4 year rule only works on brand new cars since then. but its every 2 years from your last test if ya get my drift. so if yado one now you wont have another till '09.

yeah and as already mentioned you'll have to ring them.

My car is a 97 (April) and its NCT was due early last year. I did the test recently and the cert expires in Apr 08. Your cars test would have been due at some stage last year and if you were to do the test now, its next test would be next year.
