    too slow

Better than the current 1.6 though.

p.s. They'll charge a small fortunae for it.

apparently it will replace the current 1.6FSI in the range and at the same price point, but with better performance.

too slow compared to what C breeze? ~ 125bhp and under 10 seconds 0-100kmh probably would put it in the top half of all cars on the road? It puts it up there with the 2.0TDI 140 performance wise.

Looks good to me. Am i right in saying that the current 1.6 engine isn't powerful enough for the car and that they brought in the 1.6fsi to ensure it had the same power as the old 1.6 a3? I'm sure this new engine will be more than good enough for bombing around dublin...

Has anyone else noticed that the centre console on the 2007 A3s has changed? I used to love the old stereo but now they've changed it to look more like the golf stereo and putting the hazard lights switch and cup holder in the middle instead of on top - looks crap to me and a backwards step IMHO.

Surley it will be cheaper, since it will be at the 22.5% VRT category, rather than the 25% VRT rating that the 1.6s are at the moment?

I thought the bump in VRT only came in at 2.0 litres?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,730 ✭✭✭✭R.O.R

Up to 1.4 is 22.5% VRT
    1.4 to 1.9 is 25% VRT
    Over 1.9 is 30% VRT

But Audi will get away with pricing it more than the current 1.6 because people will still buy it because it's an Audi. You can more or less ignore the VRT brackets as the VRT is worked out from the Distributor figuring out how much they can charge, then working VAT and VRT backwards from that figure.

I'd say VAG will pocket that VRT difference :D

Still better performance, lower tax and possibly lower insurance for the owner

Yes unkel you're right. What I should have written is surley it should be cheaper, but yeah I presume VAG will pocket the difference alright.

    Higher insurance I'd have thought.

too slow compared to the 170bhp folf ... i would have like to see them use that .

But i suppose it can be remapped to more bhp if needs be in the future

VAG 1.4 engines are rubbish they suffer from piston slap where the piston have worn down you can’t put new piston rings on those engines, the bottom end is unserviceable. Now they have added a turbo and supercharger to this engine….wouldn’t go near them they’re going to huge problems in years to come.

This new engine only has a turbo. No supercharger(the engine for the A3).

VAG cars are not that good anyway, they've been resting on their laurels for the past 10-15 years.

I bet we will see the old 1.6 litre 102bhp 8 valve engine soldier on while they replace the younger 1.6 FSi unit. Only logical reason is that the old unit is cheaper to produce. Passat gets the 1.4 TFSi unit too soon.

Passat and A3 are also getting a new 160bhp 1.8 TFSi unit also later in the year too, it replaces the current 2.0 FSi n/a unit. It gets pushed out to the rest of the VAG range soon after including the new A4 next year.

the 1.4TSI from the VWs? Would have been nicer alright but that would compete directly with the 1,8TFSI and the 2.0TDI 170 so wouldn't make sense for them in the Audi line up I guess.

It changed late last year. tbh it's a great move for buyers, you can change the dual din radios to the satnav for about 1k as they just slot into the space. The RNS-E can take 2x4GB SD cards full of mp3s too. The new radios are also mp3 cd compatible too.

Saves you about 3.5k on what audi charge.

sorry for all the replies, but the new 168bhp 1.8TFSI has been available since Feb in the A3. Belgards demo is for sale, it is a nice drive.
