As a Liverpool fan, I obviously want the league.
But if we could at least maintain a challenge up until the end and continue our new found (rediscovered?) glorious European performances, I'd be happy.

I would presume that Utd and Chelsea fans would want to win the Champions League above anything else?
Fergusons awful European record really is the only thing that will prevent him being remembered as one of the best managers of all time.
Chelsea have proven how strong they are in the League, and now need to convert that onto a European stage in order to recieve some of the plaudits they probably feel they don't get.

Leeds fan - at least one game this year :)

    This season...as a Rangers fan....i just want us to win something...anything...please... :p

Nah seriously as usual for supporters of the Old Firm, we expect a treble of domestic trophies at the start of the season.

In reality, The league is priority and i think its a distinct possibility this year, the cups are nice but not important.
Last 16/quarter finals in the CL would be nice but probably not very likely.

As a Leeds fan, i just want Leeds to be actually able to play a match this season. It'd be a moral victory of sorts. To win that match would be outstanding though.

As a Shels fan I know exactly how you feel. I remember the feeling of walking down the Drumcondra Road on the first evening of this season, crossing the bridge over the River Tolka and looking down towards Tolka Park and seeing the floodlights on. Just knowing we were going to be fielding a team for the season was enough to bring a tear to my eye.

    We drew the game.

As a Shels fan, and we're playing tonight, I just hope we win. It'll be three in a row victories if we do. COME ON!

    league
    champions league
    fa cup
and i suppose the carling cup aswell

....but thats just what i want. i'll settle for the fa cup and a good fight for the league.

3 champions league finals in 4 years might be a bit much to ask :p

Man United fan. Premier League is always the number 1 priority. Anything else is just a bonus.

Win the league, and Quarters/Semi of the CL and i'll be happy.

Liverpool. Would chose getting knocked out in champions league qualifiers if it meant bringing home the PL.

As a United fan, I always want to win the league. If we manage to retain the premiership next season I think our season will have been a sterling success.
The champions league is always nice, but I think it would be hollow without winning the league aswell. For me, the league is the true test of skill.

    Absolutely.

FA Cup would be nice, I'd celebrate it, I wouldn't be that sad to lose in it.
League cup is a nothing, I'll be disappointed if we play Ronaldo Scholes or Rooney in the entire comp, I want it for younger players to gain experience.

Furthermore, I think to win the CL you really need your league concerns to be over with. Last couple of winners all had that.
Milan were clear for 4th place.
Barca had already effectively won the league.
Liverpool were clear for 4th place.
    Porto had dominated the league.

Being able to focus on the CL fully obviously gives you a huge advantage, but it's not an advantage I'd ever want to have.

My heart says the League but my head says it won't be this season, however I do expect a big improvement on last season, so I'd be relatively satisfied to finish 2nd and break up Chelsea and ManU on top. Another good run in the Champions League will be important to help attract other players next summer. For me, the FA Cup is well down the list but it has a romance the League Cup will never have. The League Cup does nothing for me.

As a utd fan I agree 100%. For the league cup I'd want the second utd team to play the entire competition and give the youngsters a chance, even if we then get to semis or final I'd want to 1st team to stay out of it and leave it to the youngsters/2nd team

Im a UTD fan and I hope that we retain the League title and put up a good showing in the Champions League. We have greater depth in the squad this year so that is a real possibility.

Prem first, after that you can put the cups in whatever order you like (not actually true).

Bohs fan. Miracles apart, we won't win the league this year.
I'd be happy to qualify for the Setanta Cup. You never know, we might get a decent cup run, as we seem to play better in big matches.

FAI Cup would be decent :D especially after we knocked out the Cup Specialists we must be the overwhelming favourites now

Man Utd fan and the league should be the first priority. Getting a good run is the CL would be good, I would like us to reach the final. Honestly I want us to win everything, I know it more than likely that it wont happen but the fans and players should go into every comp wanting to win it.

As a Chelsea fan the League is number 1 priority.
Second to that would be winning a big match against liverpool for once
    Then the Champion's league

Man United fan. I want the league first, if we won the Champions League it would be so amazing and if we didnt win the league it would make up. FA Cup would be good, Carling Cup is really just so a team like Wigan gets a big day out.

    So thats:

    1. League
    2. Champo
    3. FA

Worst case scenario, just the FA cup, anything worse than that is a disaster.

I cant understand how anyone regards winning the prem as more important or a half equal to the CL tbh. It was quite laughable during the CL how the Man U heads somehow disregarded both Liverpools achievement to no.2 in Europe, as well as their own shocking match with Milan, and claimed that a mere win of the prem was the dogs nads compared to pretty much anyone elses achievements  In the CL you are up against litreally scores of Europes best teams. In the prem you know from the start that its going to be a 4 horse race in terms of who might clinch it, then theres room for a few dark ones like Blackburn and Spurs to cause an upset, however unlikely. In Europe its anyones call, it adds to the tension.

Out of the four semi-finalists three of the teams were english. So last year europe was dominated by exactly the same sides as the league. Coming second is still losing, your not supposed to celebrate it.

I have to say that after seeing both of our pre-season matches so far and the training, interviews etc. I am cautiously optimistic about the upcoming season.

Tixi, for all the abuse I have given him, and Frank have come up trumps. Excellent signings skill wise and character wise. We could not have asked for more from the management. They have obviously sat down and properly analysed or strengths and weaknesses. The fact that we have 'fichared' 3 defensive players is testament to that.

Yaya looks like an immense signing. He fills that holding role perfectly and, rather surprisingly, is a great passer of the ball. With RHEM running the channels, we are going to see some mouth watering football this year.

Abidal looks very solid and just the type of fullback we need. Some of you may remember how against the possibility of us signing Alves I was. The reasons are clear for me. Alves is a great player, but we don't and can't afford another defender cum forward. We needed and got a player that is happy to take a backseat and do the dirty work, a player that is strong in the air and someone that will do as instructed. In Abidal we got that.

Milito, well we have to wait and see, but he is solid in the air and really competitive. It remains to be seen if he can form a partnership with Puyol as they are both rather 'gung-ho' type defenders how can be drawn into the ball. Hopefully they will come to an understanding and will play together well.

Henry was not top of my list of priorities and I was a little annoyed when we signed him as I didn't believe that we needed him. However, he will add competition for places and we will not rely on REM as much this time round. My only concern is if he will block the development of the younger players coming through.

Giovanni and Bojan. Bojan is truly awesome; I can't begin to describe how enthusiastic I am about him and his future. Please use him Frank! Gio on the other hand is going to find life a little difficult this year. All his positions are filled and filled again.

Crosas also looks competent. A far better option than the idiot Motta.

So what about this season? What can we expect? I made the mistake last year of thinking we would win everything in our path. We should have done as we definitely had the squad to do it, but football is a funny old game and the players are human after all. Will history repeat itself? Will I stick my neck out again and predict the impossible? You bet I will! Why the hell not, we have a great team. A truly great squad, perhaps the best that has ever been assembled. We are getting rid of the fringe players that just caused us grief (Saviola fans please note!), our reinforcements are red (or should that be Blaugrana) hot and the old boys know that the attitude they showed last year is not acceptable.

Sure we will let in stupid goals. We have always let in stupid goals. Our defence is all about possession. If the opposition do not have the ball they can't score. Where we fell down last year was against the big teams as we couldn't but the game to bed quickly enough. We were just not clinical enough in front of goal and it cost us. This year we have the fire power and injuries permitting we will sink the opposition, sans doubt!

Realistically we should be looking for a league and cup double and the CL this season. I am not joking and you can hang me if I am wrong!

Concerns. One major worry, it has to be said, is that if Valdes gets injured we are screwed. Tixi and co had better sort out a back up keeper pronto.

As a United fan, I craved that title last year like no other I can remember. Was great to see them crowned top dogs again after a couple of years in Chelsea's (and Arsenal the year before) wake. It seems I am in a majority of Man U fans who see the Premiership as their priority so you could hardly call it a mere win. Also, I assume by your reference to Champs' League that you're a Liverpool fan. I'd be pretty confident in saying that your fellow supporters would also love a Premier League win above all else.

Because the CL is getting ridiculous now. When Liverpool won it, you'd have there fans constantly boasting about being the best in Europe but if you pointed ou to them that they were 5th in England they refused to recognize the contradiction.
I spent the summer in Milan and it's the same there. Inter were unstoppable last year and Milan couldn't hold a candle to them (and Likewise Totti was amazing while Kaka was absent for half of the season ), but now Milan are treated as a better team and Kaka was voted the best player in Serie A by football italia readers and viewers despite Totti winning the golden boot from midfield.
If you win the league your the best in your country and the league proves it, If you win the CL you are by no means the best team in Europe, you just got very lucky

Lads, you're not thinking big enough. I won't be happy settling for anything less than the Johnstone's Paint Trophy. Being allowed to play in the league and not getting relegated to League Two would be pretty sweet too.

Winning the Premiership means that you have won the most matches in a season, winning the Champions League means you can lose almost half of your games and still win the competition. You also have to take into account that alot of the teams in the group stages of the CL are absolutely rubbish and are no better than some English Championship sides.

So if winning the most matches in a season isn't important, then I don't know what is...

In Europe its anyones call, it adds to the tension.

It might add to the tension, but in terms of who the best team really is, I will always pick the league over a cup. That's why the premiership is always the test of the best team in England, not the FA Cup.
Granted the CL might have better teams, but it's still a cup.

    As my sig says :)

League by a country mile. It is so long ago now that it is getting very close to the amount I used to take the mickey out of my Utd friends about at school. Depressing.

Utd fan and the league is the one that I think we want more than ever. As someone mentioned earlier, last year we were really craving the league, it'll always be the number one prioirty as long as it exists in it's current form (assuming there is a possibility there will be Euro super leagues and multiball and silver V necks etc).

Always had a soft spot for the FA cup as well as it has so many special memories for most English teams at some point in their history.

Champions league is always great to watch but isn't the achievement that a strong domestic league is - England, Italy, Spain - in my opinion. Would still love it though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,467 ✭✭✭smemon

    Utd Fan;

League and FA Cup double would be a fantastic season for Utd (narrowly missed out last year on the double).

The champions league is not the same without a league title to go along with it.

    in order of priority;
    • Premier League
    • Champions League
    • FA Cup
    • Carling Cup
