Has anyone here used these in the recent past and would reccommend them? I've had my eye on getting one after I found some recent work would have really benefitted from them.

I went the DIY route and made one by cutting out the sides of a plastic milk container and taping 2 layers of it together (for opacity). I wouldn't say it's 100% accurate, but it's close enough for most things, and does make a big difference. I'd guess Expodisk (does that one do WB?) and the like would do a pretty good job

There was the whole set of colour cards even with description, for manual WB calibration.
You can do it on your own - just collect different colours of paper and try to calibrate on it. I think that grey paper gives you "pinky" colour haze, but I am not sure about it.

I use the cap of a pringles box, but I have noticed that they have changed the caps, which are a clear plastic now, it works very well.

Yeah I have one that I bought ages back but only started using it recently with some portrait stuff I did.

I have used one of these ;http://photography.about.com/od/photoaccessories/fr/expodisc.htm
    also
    http://www.luminous-landscape.com/reviews/accessories/whibal.shtml

also a regular 18% grey card too for importing a custom white balance and to be honest there is not a humongous difference between using them and not using them in my view. If I was shooting in very difficult lighting conditions like say with lots of conflicting colour casts thrown by filtered lights and reflections then maybe they would be a requirement. To be honest I will get one at some point but its not the top of the list at the moment.

Why not just shoot a grey card at the start of the shoot and use that in PS to set the white balance for them all. I wouldnt worry about it unless like me at showjumping you have to shoot JPEG for printing onsite, then maybe use a card or expodisc.
