A few boots questions...

Well firstly i just want to ask if anyone has any ideas on how i could repair the goretex lining of my Scarpa hiking boots. Just above my big toe on my right foot, it has worn a hole through the lining straight to the leather, and i only noticed it last week, when my boot filled up with water while cycling home in rain shower.

I was thinking of using silicone or something, and spreading a blob of it on the hole to seal, but i am unsure if it would stick and stay there. Maybe there is a better way?
I will get new boots in a few months when i go off traveling abroad, but would like to keep these ones for now, as other than the hole in the lining, they are in pretty good shape (and i have gotten a lot of use out of them...)

Also , i have a pair of Meindl shoes (http://www.meindl.de/english/modelle/schuh_detail2.asp?ID=401) which are only a few months old, but they stink to high heaven..
I have washed them a few times as advised on the meindl site, but still no good.

Normally i'd use soapy water and give the inside a good clean, but the site advises against using soapy or detergent to clean shoes with the goretex.
So i am wondering is there any special cleaners that can be got, which would get rid of the smell

The lining is going to be pretty hard to repair, I've never heard of anyone fixing it to be honest but you can get Gore tex patches repair rip's in jackets so you could try fitting one into your boot's. The only problem is you can end up knackering the fit of the boot and make it very uncomfortable.

Give them a really good covering in wax (Aquias by Nikwax is pretty good) and go very heavy on the seems, it should help.

As for the smelly shoe's, most decent chemist's and shoe shops will stock a deordorant for shoes, I usually pick it up in Boot's (no pun inteneded :D ) in Jervis street, in with the the feet stuff.

Are those boots any good for Hiking and stuff cos places don't accept you without good boots?? I paid €112 for them.

Thanks for the advise guys, i will try that shoe deodarant and see if it does the job. I think i will have to go heavy on the wax, as i cant see anything that will repair the inside lining, i guess i will have to move those boots to the 'general working boots' area.. and get some new boots for hiking.
