Take-Two has reduced its fiscal 2007 forecast as it opted to delay the release of Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto IV.
ImageThe game was originally scheduled for October this year during Take-Two's fiscal 2007, but now the game will release during the publisher's fiscal 2008 Q2, ending April 2008.

yup scared of something as over hyped and over loved which will just be another boring storyline with updated graphics and bring a whole new wave of intolerable 12 year olds into online gaming.

I'd say M$ has a big part to play in this. They don't want the sales of H3 damaged by GTA.

if microsoft had anything to do with it then it would still be launched this side of christmas so they would get sales too.

which is, i think i fairly accurately decribed the halo franchise in the shortest sentence possibly.

wait no let me have another crack at it: zzz.

Considering the GTA franchise (just counting the 3D ones) has sold three times as much as the Halo franchise, I don't think there's much to be afraid of. Especially given the luke warm reception the Halo 3 beta receives. Halo is the most marketted, but GTA is the most popular by far.

Sounds like genuine development problems, which isn't hard to believe considering how little of the game they've actually shown at this point and what they're trying to do with it.

Have you got links to those stats. Not disputing with you. I just hate it when people spout off stats with nothing backing them up.

Wikipedia - I know they're not exactly gospel but they've a list of sources and the numbers make sense when you think about them.

We all have our opinions of Halo, but it's not debatable that it's one of the most anticipated games of the year. Either way, I'm not too fussed on GTAIV being delayed, I've got Bioshock, Blue Dragon and hopefully Eternal Sonata to keep me occupied.

T2 want to push GTA back because they've had an awful year, and putting GTA out at that time would split the profit between this year (which they really can't recover from) and next year. instead of having that, they can just have all their profit next year and make themselves look absolutely fantastic for investors, who right now are trying their best to leave the company.

I've never seen that page. It's pretty interesting that (yes, I know the first two were bundled with the console, but...) the best game on the NES sold 40m, on the SNES sold 20m, on the N64 sold 11m and the cube sold only 6m ... If this trend continues!! But no, the best selling Wii game is already over 8m. Which is pretty damn good considering it's not bundled in Japan and nexgenwars reckons just over 9m Wiis have been shifted.

I suppose despite the handful of excellent GC titles, it never really had a defining game. The contenders were either too late, too mature, too cel-shaded, too strapped to a waterpistol-backpack thing or too... I dunno, why didn't Metroid Prime sell better? Perhaps it and Wind Waker were released too close together?

Sorry, I'm waddling way off topic...

(taken from a post in the xbox forum)

    http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=80785

the delay hasn't been caused by any pressure or contractual obligation to MS. Quite the opposite - it's due to a contractual obligation with Sony not to release it on the 360 first.

Due to development problems with the PS3 both versions are delayed till next year.

[edit] OR this article says the opposite!!! :)

I dont think its the 360s fault as they managed to fit Oblivion onto one disc, which is a huge, huge game. The compression technology that it said MS are making sounds interesting tho, but could they also use double sided discs too?

Oblivion is nothing like GTA - it's a huge game but it uses the same assets over and over again in different areas while GTA will have far more unique assets because the city will have much more in the way of unique scenery. This can be seen from Project Gotham Racing 4, which is a comparitively small game, but due to the fact it's using real cities the developers have said that they've had to cut a lot of content out to fit it on a DVD.

Not that that's the problem with GTA IV mind you, it's not going to be using such high res photo realistic textures as PGR. Space will probably only be a problem if they try to do something the size of San Andreas.

There's various articles blaming PS3 and various other articles blaming 360 but it's all speculation. The game may not be up to scratch on either format for all we know. Most reports from the press demo which showed the 360 version said it wasn't up to scratch with a really poor frame rate. The PS3 version might be better or might be worse.

This is a massive blow for the PS3.

    The 7GB 360 discs are already double-sided.

I think this is worse news for MS tbh. They've been portraying GTA as more 'their' game, with the DLC deal etc. part of their triple-threat for the holidays in the US of Halo/GTA/Madden. The delay disarms one part of that equation for this holiday, and gives Sony more time to get the price of their system down more before GTA hits. And it'll now be hitting alongside other big PS3 titles like MGS4, LittleBigPlanet and Killzone 2, which should all be out alongside GTAIV in Spring/Early Summer. In some ways, MS is giving it all they've got this holiday with their biggest franchises, and I'm sure they'd have preferred GTA to be contributing to that cumulative momentum, rather than landing in relative isolation compared to their competing platform.

    don't you mean dual layered?

the poster you quoted was talking about - i think - dual layered double sided discs as in you have to turn the disc over physically to get the other side and then you'd have 7gigsx2 (14gigs) on one disc.

either way i don't really care as long as the game is good.

Yeah, sorry, I meant dual layered. With double-sided discs, it's probably cheaper and as (in)convenient to go with two, and probably more durable too.
