They post it to you, I'm sure it depends on what Tax office you take it to.

I got mine from Clondalkin in two days.

Related question : Is there anyway of requesting paperwork when you do apply in the tax office, so that you can drive while you wait?

If you apply in person you get a receipt which has your driver number on it and is proof that you've applied. It's not a licence but it is much better than driving around with no licence if stopped by the guards.

If in Dublin and you want it fast an area office would be best, though you are at a higher risk of something going wrong (but still unlikely).

hmmm... is this legal, or is it just "much better?"

i will ask in morning anyway, but kinda wanted to know before hand

Well when the guards see that they often give 10 days to produce the actual licence afaik.

Got mine out in 2 days! But if you tell them that you need it ASAP for work related things and all! They can sometimes do you one up there and then!
