    General Rock Marches Fourth(episode 4)

As the final preparations are being made for the fourth annual all ages GeneralRock fundraiser concert, the countdown to the raising of the curtain is drawing closer. Design and development of the event began back in January, and the time isnear to bask in the glory of hard work done. The fundraiser, now organised by Stephen Barcoe, Adam J. Power and Ray O’Brien for the Kilkenny Bandits Inline Hockey Club (founded in 2004 by Stephen Barcoe and Mick Walsh), will run on August25th in St. Marys Hall, Kilkenny.

For those of you who don’t know where St. Marys Hall is, it’s the old church behind O’Brien’s Sandwich Bar on High Street, Kilkenny.

The Concert this year will take place late in the day, kicking off around 6.00pm. and
won’t finish until everyone’s got whiplash...or sometime around 22.30!! The line up is comprised of top notch rock, grunge and metal bands not just from Kilkenny but other counties including Carlow, Kildare, Dublin and Cork.

Tickets will be available from Resistance Records in the coming weeks fetching for a mere 8 euro. That’s less than 2 euro a band people!! Alternatively you can pay at the entrance to the gig, however the charge is slightly pricier at 10 euro! Remember
all profits go to the Kilkenny Bandits inline hockey team.

So allow me to introduce everyone to this year’s line up: Presenting... da ta da daaaaaaa! Blue Meryl (Kilkenny), Sticky Digit (Dublin), Jekyl (Kildare), Original Line-Up (Kilkenny), Noiseface (Dublin), The Thermal Detonators(Kilkenny) Jezery (Cork) and Von Bizmark (Kilkenny). Didn’t we say it was going to be a killer line up?!

Now for something a little extra; for those of you who are of drinking age, there will be an after show party hosted by the kind folks at Paris Texas who have helped General Rock throughout the year build its reputation with bands around Kilkenny and Ireland, allowing us to transform a simple restaurant into a music and entertainment club catering for all styles of rock, metal, grunge, blues, jazz and acoustic music and also helping us make the venture free for the public to enjoy!

Musical entertainment on the night will be provided by Kilkenny acoustic legend Maurice Ramsbottom who is currently embarking on a nationwide career (sounds a bit strange; "nationwide career". Maybe "tour" or something else. Just sounds a bit awkward) playing with high profile bands. And for anyone in the area on the 20th of July, Maurice will be performing with The Frames' very own Rob Bochnik at the "Coffee Sessions" in Starbucks on Harcourt Street, Dublin.

"Maurice Ramsbottom blew audiences away at a recent support gig in Cleere's. His spine-tingling vocals combined with skilful guitar technique, honest lyrics and pure soul, brought silence to the venue as the full house looked on in admiration as a talented musician reminded the crowd that music is a form of expression. Maurice proved that musical expressionism, when portrayed properly, is a powerful tool that provokes the listener to dive into the song and relate to every word. That is what a real songwriter can do, and Maurice did just that."

So there you have it. The wait is finally over. Well not really, it's still a month at least until the gig, but now you know what all the unnecessary hush ad secrecy was about! So here's to an excellent concert and day full of fantastic music![/url]
