What Arcade / Retro games do you have?

As lè title states, what kind of magical stuff do you have wrapped up inside you computer? As my last thread showed (TOP 100 ARCADE GAMES) we all have some nice taste in arcade games. So, here's my lot:

    Mame32 - 1430 Roms
I use v0.9 the most as I think thats the best GUI version and most CHD games are stable. I only use the latest versions for new Neo Geo games and Virtua Racing :)

    Project64 - 33 Roms
Excellent N64 emu, I only have the best games that were released (My, there were a lot of shít games for the N64!)

    ZSNES - 68 Roms
Well, the SNES. Nuff said really, always go back to play Mario Kart on it.

    ESPSX - 5 Roms
This is me latest collection I only just started. To save me trouble I usually get RIP Roms, which are games with bits ripped out (music, etc) to lower the size. Destruction Derby was cut down to 4MB and works perfectly.

    Nebula Model 2 - 9 Roms
Ah, what an emulator. Reunited me with Daytona USA after many years of trying to get this game!

    Genesis - 3 Roms
Hmm, yea I never got around to collecting these. I only have the Streets Of Rage series at the mo'.

    DosBox - 12 Games
I don't think I need to say much for this, though Blood is by far my favourite game and I still love playing it.

    Atari Jaguar - 4 Roms
Meh, I only got this for Aliens Vs. Predator which is a pretty decent game considering when it game out.

That's my lot, I think. I used to have Dreamcast .ISO games but I deleted them for some bizzare reason.

For me if the emulation isn't pixel perfect then I have to have the original machine to play the games on.

I have mame with all my old favourites on it. I'll have to get a newer version or nebula to try out the model 1 and 2 games.

I use ZSNES a lot and have a load of roms for it as well. Loved the SNES, it sisn't have the raw processing power of the TG-16 and MD but games just looked nicer with the increased colour palette, transparencies and mode 7. Of course it also had the nintendo games.

I use Gens for Megadrive games and I've also a load of roms for it. Love playing through Gunstar Heroes, Rocket Knight Adventures and Contra Hard Corps every so often.

I use Nesticle for NES games but have to use NESTEN for Castlevania 3 since it is the only one that works for that game. Many of the nes games are pretty crap now but there are some timeless classics like the Megaman and Mario series.

Only just getting into Master System games. Forgot how good Master of Darkness was and played through Phantasy Star 1 recently.

I have emulators for the NES, MS and Gameboy on my PSP and they get played on that more than on the PC.

As for Retro consoles I still have a load of PS1 games to get through, I have a Dreamcast but I only recently started that collection so there's loads of games missing, I also have an N64 with some decent games. Only really missing is Mischief makers and Sins and Punishment.

Then there is my favourite, my Sega Saturn. I only have a few originals but most are good including Panzer Dragoon Saga and Nights. I have probably every game worth getting for the Saturn. The only one I'm missing is a proper Thunderforce V, the one floating around the net has had it's music butchered by some idiot.

I use the Wii's VC service quite a lot as well. I much prefer to turn on a console and play the games as they should be played instead of waiting for a PC to boot up and play them in an uncomfortable environment.

I remember I played Mission Impossible: for the NES and that gave me a good suprise, it was actually pretty damn good.

I always put my laptop into Hibernation mode so when I turn it on it's up and ready before I can even whip out a fag and light it. Used to always have it hooked up to my TV so comfort was never a problem for me.

I always find it funny at how my mates find it bizzare that I have all the latest PC games but I spend most of my time playing arcade / retro games. Then again, I'm the only one out of my mates who went to the arcades as a kid, though that's no fault of them considering we live in Co. Roscommon; The Baron Wasteland.

    DOSBox-11 games
    Mame32-1364 ROMS
Sega Genesis (Gens)-over 300 at least.

I have 2 consoles, SNES and Sega Megadrive with 32x and have a few games for each. I haven't had much time to bid on any more stuff lately though. Skitchin' is the last one I got for the megadrive, I am after some more EA stuff like some of the FIFAs and Road Rash.

Oh I luv these questions! Please sir please sir! (raises hand in the air). :p

    Mame32 version u 0.116 - 6,653 Roms (and I only tried 10 at most!) :)

C64 - winvice (Well, anything really) - depends what I'm on... always something c64 related going on... Starquake map at the moment and c128 basic programming (just for laughs). I love the Sentinel from time to time on it. I have probably 50 of my fave snapshots at hand for the commie at the moment.

Amiga - winuae - now 1.4a - well, I have 3 harddrive files. Installed 50 or so games on one, Interactive fiction on another and serious utilities (eg vistapro 2) on yet another. Got KillerGorilla's lovingly prepared WHDLoad packs (500Mb). 5,000 on archive. 100 of these I played and know well. (1990-93).
Let's mention the Atari ST here (Steem) - got the full pack of games (Maybe about 500-600games)

Zsnes - I haven't used this in awhile but wanted to get into ChronoTrigger - but please can anyone convince me to sit down and waste a week of my life? (well I'm on holidays and I only have a week!) :)

DosBox - Ah! This was looking good for the last two years but since version 0.70 came out over 3 months ago I haven't looked back - it's so fast in comparison) - currently replaying Battle Isle2 against TitanNet (still waiting for real human players! So let me know if anyone is interested in an email game).
8Gb of Dos games and another 3Gb from my old geniune personal collection. So much from 1993-1996 :D

Atari - Only just started exploring this one in detail. Zoning in currently on the 2600 console. Will look at the computer Atari's next, eg. 800XL

I tried the Dragon 32 (I know its based on the 6502 or maybe a slight variation 6507 but I know its a close relative). I only ever used this for computer for real for 30mins back in the day - but would like to use it more.

The Amstrad CPC - never had it - tried the emulator (APE I think) and have 356Mb of tape and disks - but really I'd use the c64 version. But it has a nice 80 col mode which the c64 lacked.

BBC Micro - Never had it but played on a friend's machine years ago - I went through a phase about 2 years ago with the Beeb emulator. Have the original basic manual so I was playing with the load and chain command to try out some of the intro tutorial. I really like going through that stuff sometimes. :o
Hmmm, must see if there are any Specific BBC Micro mags.

Spectulator - lovely emulator - a crazy amount of software - but really don't play much of it - but I do like the games made by "Ultimate Play the Game" - all their games made great use of the spectrum graphics. Nice bright colors - I also tried Starquake - looks lovely and bright compared to the c64 version. Most of these type avoid the color clash.

Anyone ever use the Mattel Aquarius or Sharp computers (MZ-7xx.. or X1)?

All this is now off my main pc onto that external 500gb harddrive - so handy! The best buy I ever made.... and guarenteed until July 2012. Oh Joy. :)

You owe it to yourself and the japanese RPG genre to play Chrono Trigger. Beautiful, charming, great characters and a surprisingly clever story for a cute game, it's the defining 16-bit RPG and arguably the best J-RPG ever made. Give it a chance.

At one point I had the goodsets for the snes, genesis and N64. I still have the genesis one because it's on my xbox. I have the .116 set of mame also.

I also prefer the original consoles, here's my small collection with the most popular titles that still get plenty of play...

Sega Saturn :-with Burning Rangers (JAP),Panzer Dragoon Saga, Nights
(I'm after Dragonforce and a few others too..)

Atari Jaguar:- with Alien Vs Predator, Flashback, Tempest 2000, Iron Soldier, Syndicate.

PS1:- with Vagrant Story, Xenogears (on its way in the post), FF7, Metal Gear Solid, Silent Hill

Dreamcast:- with Skies of arcadia, Shenmue, Le Mans 24Hr, Ikaguri, Halflife

Seriously thinking about getting a SNES for some classic RPG action too!

I spend more time on the above than my 360!

I've mentioned before the original consoles and games i have, once again, it's best to play on the original.
But emulation is a good value way of playing old games but for one thing.
I find that buying one game at a time forces you to spend quality gaming hours with that game, getting familiar with it, progressing in it and doing pretty much what the programmer had intended the buyer to do, to get pleasure from it.
Issue with emulated games, and pirated stuff too, is that you tend to get games in huge blocks or simply on demand, meaning you are overloaded with games, many of which are great but, who has time to play them all?
I mean I too have Mame, Final Burn, Snes, Genesis, GBA and 2600 roms all dumped onto a harddrive in my modded Xbox, but when do I get time to play any of them? When do I care to flip through a fast moving menu at the games? Usually to pick a vaguely familiar game out almost at random.
I find going to the markets, finding a dusty copy of Defender II for the 2600 and rushing home to try it out infinitly more satisfying, even if I am crap at defender!
Pirated games the same, so many great games on the DC but because I had all of them in large chunks, I never finished any, just played a few levels before moving on to the next one.
I nearly wish I had to eagerly await payday before I cold rush out and buy my carefully selected game for my Snes or Megadrive all those years ago, now I have the latest goos stuff for PS2, DS, 360 and Wii all sitting under the TV awaiting play, most never to be completed, while still with my eye on this weekends big games.

    Good point Ciderman,
I remember having to trade my PC games in after I'd finished them to get another game! A few years ago I was dying to play some of these old PC classics and had to go through Ebay to get them...
I now have a good colelction of Classic PC titles and I'm building a sizeable collection for my retro machines (Mainly the Saturn).
I love to play these titles on the original consoles rather than emulation, and they look pretty good on my 26 inch flat panel TV!

Something simply right about playing sonic with a megadrive controller, or perhaps playing Super Mario Bros 3 on a real Nes.
Then, there are so many games I have played and loved over the years, so few of them stand the test of time and don't disappoint, I still like Star Control 2 and Need For Speed on the 3DO, I still enjoy Wipeout 2097 on the PSone, I can get a kick playing Minestorm on the Vectrex but many others don't cut the mustard, like Monty Mole and Knight Lore on the Speccy.

I bought Tetris for my phone.... Bit of a bad mistake now because I'm so addicted to it.
When I get the chance I sometimes go to my friends house and play Streets Of Rage for the MegaDrive... Classic game.

i open up caprice and play a few amstrad games from time to time.. the vast majority of them are amazingly frustrating to play now though, despite how great they seemed at the time.

i have a snes emulator on my DS so i play a lot of super mario world and mario kart, play a bit of sonic on the megadrive on the ds too

playing daytona on the nebula emulator was an brilliant, really brought back memories..

I reckon Daytona is ripe for a decent conversion to the current range of consoles, the DC one was great although I always found the controls rather, arcane, as if you needed some unnatural powers to thread your Hornet sideways through the twisting racetracks!
The Saturn version, the first one not the CCE one, is great, nothing like hurtling towards that Sonic wall at full tilt, in the comfort of your own home!
The advantage of playing say C64/Speccy/Amstrad CPC 464 stuff is no waiting for the tape to load, if it loads at all, so in that respect emulation is great, but on the consoles there is no excuse, get out and buy the machine, most of these are cheap enough now, and get all the games you always wanted at the time but couldn't afford, only a select few titles are ever going to reach astronomical prices, the rest are cheap as chips, so build your own collection.
Its nice to have complete romsets, but outside of a few faves when do you play them all?
