    Hey there...

Apologies if this is a recent topic, I couldn't find anything related to it.

I was seriously thinking of getting myself a digital breathalyser for the car...but there is such a variety of breathalysers on the net...does anyone have any recommendations?

The key chain breathalysers are a novel idea, but how accurate are they?

I don't drive after drinking, but the morning is a bit of a risk area...

    Thanks, N.

You must live in a different diocese to me!!

Yeah - was thinking that they looked a bit fragile to be betting my license on them!
The safedrive.ie ones look solid enough

I have one of the ones from saferdrive.ie.

I use it the morning after the night before.

The limit is 0.08 and it says not to drive if you are over 0.05.

I haven't compared it to the 'real thing' so I can't comment on its accuracy.

There is an option to replace the sensor though which would suggest to me that is is a decent quality product.

    Mike.

I know a few guys who have home breathalysers and as far as i can see they are not accurate, even when they are steamed, it says they are grand.
Maybe you could ask the gardai if there are any home ones they would recommend?

none of those hand held breathalizers are great, Even the ones the gardai have aren't the best

All they are good for is indicating the presence of alcohol, I wouldn't trust them for giving an accurate reading

how ever i would recommend the "lion intoxilyzer 6000IRI .. you might need to buy an estate car to carry it around though

If you have to use a breathalyser to determine whether you are fit to drive you really don't deserve to be allowed on the road.

Thats not fair to say. Some people might want to be 0.000 before they even get into a car. Some people could be tired rather than drunk/hungover which has its own implications.

I get breathalyser every morning for work (mining) to make suer we are 0.000 for safety reasons. If I have some drinks the previous night I self breathalise in the morning before going to work. Any positive reading is an instant dismissal.

I've been very tired some mornings after some drinks and felt rotten and swore I was still going to blow numbers. Blew 0.000's self testing and the same in work.

    It's peace of mind.
