I have used DHL in the past, Not sure if they would be the cheapest but are extremely reliable and I have had fragile items which were always fine. I haven't used UPS.

Just as a matter of interest, how much does it cost for a service like that?

Flying most likely. Seriously go through all that stuff again and see what do you REALLY need, heavy and bulky stuff (as the coffee machine) tends to cost close to the same to ship as buying new (for standard models). Go through the clothes, ask yourself what of that would you need and wear in the next 6 to 12 months, not possibly but would wear and donate the rest etc. For books sort out the once that you're not going to read again (once again no maybe etc. but a straight up yes I will read this), now check through the once you're going to read again and remove the stuff you can get easily in Ireland and are not in good condition, send the rest with regular mail.

The rest you can take on the flight with possibly some over weight (yes, that includes the bike if it is a regular cycle not a motor one (; ).

Check the golden pages under Freight companies - there are a few companies that specialise in moving personal effects. Otherwise GLS & Inetrlink can also provide a spanish service.

UPS have a cost calculater on thier website. http://wwwapps.ups.com/calTimeCost?loc=en_ES

One little tip though, dont over pack your boxes and make sure you wrap the entire cardboard box in a fairly strong tape to prevent it from bursting open. Ive seen boxes of personal goods over packed and they burst open pretty easily.

    Penny,

Try the Spanish postal service. I did this once and it was something like 85 euro for 20kgs. You have to box it and tape it all up and there are certain maximum dimensions for the box, but it'll be at your door in about five days. Their website is www.correos.es.

As for going the other way, my girlfriend used An Post a couple of years ago, they were a bit more pricey.
