Just Watched Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring Again....

.... and it's still as fantastic as I remember. It's every bit as entertaining as the first time I saw it. I bought a new 32" Panasonic LCD recently and cranked up the surround sound rather loudly. It was a great experiance and really drew those of us watching into the movie even more.

Ahh it was excellent. I hadn't watched the movie in a good long while and it really is an incredible piece of film making. The cinematography, the character development, the music, the casting (who would have thought Sean Astin was a good choice!). I can't remember a piece of film making that was as anticipated, that had such high expectations and delivered on all fronts. I was talking with my mate and we were thinking that the last trilogy which had such an impact on the general public was the original Star Wars 'Trilogy', and that's nearly 30 years ago.

Do we have to wait another 30 years for another trilogy that's as 'BIG', as anticipated and well received?

My mate who I was watching it with would agree with you. Personally I always preferred The Two Towers.
Needless to say it's on the cards next and then The Return of the King. Ooh I should add that these are the extended editions!

I would be of the same view, The Fellowship was the best, followed, by The Return of the King, then The Two Towers.

I remember I got a new sound system when the The Two Towers was released on DVD. Best way to test was to crank it up and watch it on the big screen. Great experience.

I must watch the trilogy again. Only ever watched the extended version of part one and I still havent recovered from the popcorn induced dehydration that resulted.

But this was really a great trilogy - it was really exciting every December getting to see the latest installment, and never failed to disapoint. You really have got to hand it to Peter Jackson - a terrific director (just caught the end of the Frighteners there and it is also a great piece of entertainment).

Very much a fan of the trilogy, and I might also think 'Fellowship..' is the best, if only because it brought something so fresh to the screen. You can remember the sense of amazement/wonder as you saw it unfold on the big screen and yet it can still be recaptured on the small screen.

I'm going to have to rewatch it now as well, with the sound up (I recall how the opening battle in 'Fellowship...' was a great test for the sub-woofer when Sauron explodes outwards). Although I haven't loathed this Summer's blockbusters, 'Fellowship..' and the trilogy entire shows how you can really make a stunning, intelligent blockbuster that uses SFX to tell the story and not to become the story.

Fellowship is my favourite too. Sean Bean as Boromir - how could it not be the best of the 3?

This is such a great movie, I absolutely love every single extended-edition-second of it. I think it's the most balanced & polished (CGI-wise) of the three and it could almost work as a standalone movie. ROTK is my next favourite followed by TTT. I had a marathon extended editions session (it was something like 12 or 13 hours!) in January 2005 with a couple of friends and the day absolutely flew in, 'twas brill. Must dig them out again.

I haven't watched any of them in ages. I loved them all but tbh I was kinda burnt out on LOTR by the time ROTK EE came out and was quite happy to just forget about them for a while. But all in all I think Jackson did an extraordinary job, better than anyone could have imagined a few years before. Aside from a few grave structural errors made with TTT and ROTK I think they work brilliantly as a whole. Though I'd still love to see PJ go back in a few years and do a revised EE of the entire trilogy, just to smooth things out.

Apparently there is a super duper even longer edition of each movie due out at some point. I can't remember when exactly, but according to Wikipedia they are on the way and will include lots of scenes that were filmed but never included on any of the DVD's, though these scenes won't be reworked into the movie itself. They'll just be stand alone.

The fellowship of the ring is one big snorefest, a very boring film, two towers and return both kick it's ass

Yea, great films, fantastic in fact. I'll be picking up a brand new TV myself in the next week or 2 and have now been inspired to watch these all again on it. Must get the surround sound system as well to hear some of that amazing music

I don't agree with that. While not as action packed as the other two movies, it's not meant to be. It's introducing you to the characters and setting up the story. Important elements when a Trilogy is as 'big' as this.

FotR was the only decent film in that trilogy imo, was bored as christmas in the cinema for the second one and I actually walked out of the third one half way through. Just thought to myself at the interval "oh god, another hour and ahalf of this... and I have to stay, because I payed for the ticket" then I stopped for a second, realised what a stupid notion that was and left, saying goodbye to my friends. who were a little confused.

    baaaaaad.

Maybe i should get around to actually finishing this. The first time i dozed off after the first hour and that was the end of my LOTR experience.

I cant watch fantasy films! i dunno, they bore the life out of me.
(Never seen any star wars and have no intention to either.)
Maybe some day i shall get around to seeing the 3 of these... I doubt it will be for some time though.
I hear there's a eally good battle scene in 2 so thats some motivation...

What!? Are you saying you've spent your life without seeing Labyrinth? Or The Dark Crystal?
