Following on from the other threads about quick cash and a career in photography, some people said they'd been published a few times. How did it come about? what type of pictures were they? and where were you published?

been published in most Irish newspapers, a couple of Irish magazines, and a couple of magazines in the US and the UK

generally it's when the people whose picture I'm taking have asked me to be there so they can send the photos to the magazine etc

in some cases, magazines contact me and buy direct from me in whch case the pay is generally from pretty good to nothing

    Indeed.

Been published a lot of times this year.

Pictures published were a mix between fashion, bang group shots, gig shots & some standard 'newspaper group photos'. More recently, have images on the front of bus timetables... Lol!

I havnt got any further than local rags as of yet, but hey it pays me well enough and gets my name/face known locally which is leading to some quite interesting opportunities such as the artists job that i asked about in another thread.

How well do the local papers pay?

Looking to get some stuff in the local one this coming college year.
They seem to publish any old b*llocks so why not mine too!

A fella from the Kerryman said before that 10€ a pic is about right.

I get payed on a monthly basis from them, i do a little writing for them too so im not really sure to be honest.
They call me up, tell me what they want pictures of this week and off i go.

obviously the journalistic side of it means i need to be ready to find stories and pictures off my own back which is a little more awkward in a little place like this!
its my first job doing this kind of stuff so im still learning as i go on really, it can be frustrating at times because im nowhere near the office and have very little contact with editors amd senior journalists in order to get feedback from them.

I got into it simply by sending off pictures of events and short articles about whats going on around the area to all the locals.....for a while they were printing them quite happily without any sort of renumeration whatsoever, which didnt bother me because i put it all down to experience and portfolio.
Eventually i got fed up with that and hounded them for some sort of payment, which to my surprise led to an actual salaried job.

Theres a lot of pros and cons to that, but i wont go into them right now, basically keep sending stuff off and build up as many contacts as you can and youll eventually see things happen for you.
