new roof tiles, paint peeling

We fitted a tiled roof to our new house recently. Within weeks of completing the roof a lot of the tiles started to delaminate, the paint peeling.

Some of the unused tiles, and off-cuts lying around the site are doing the same.

This has obviously impacted on the aesthetics of the house, and I’m well p***ed off.

The manufacturer has acknowledged the peeling, and offered to respray the new roof.

Ideally I would have liked to have a entire new roof of tiles fitted, at the tile manufacturers cost..
Or seeing that I‘ve been sold duff product proceed with the respray and be compensated for the fact that I didn’t get what I paid for.
But the manufacturer is saying respray only, no compensation.

Had anyone encountered a situation like this before and what was the outcome.

What type of Roof Tiles are painted? ......

Doesn't sound like a long life product? .....

What make of tiles are they? What do they claim to be? Rooftiles should last for decades, how could anything sprayed on last any time, and what about the tile surface under the overlap.

Yes last for decades, that's what you'd think when you part with your money..
The actual warrenty is 10 years..

However the peeling started soon after the roof was complete.

I'm not sure what the exact tile material is, but there is a top black coat sprayed on at the factory, beneath is a dull grey fibreous looking material. I doubt if this material is water permiable, but the fact the paint is peeling makes it look real bad ( and the entire house)
From a distance it looks very similar to bird droppings ( lots of)

The surface under the overlap.. yes resrapying won;t get to that

I'm also finding it had to see how they will 'get it right' up on the roof, when they can't 'get it right' in the factory.

I have pics somewhere I will try and post
I don't know if it ok to post the manufacturer of tiles?

Is it just bad paint that was used in the factory? They'll probably have to remove the remaining paint before going ahead with the re-spray, hopefully using the proper paint.

The agent who called around to inspect the roof, said it was probably due to the batch being painted in too cold a weather at the factory...

FFS I thought with all these ISO and stuff that they had some QC and some way of controlling manufacturing environments??
So back to 'the batch',.... somebody else must have peeling tiles somewhere?? and not just me?

Never heard of roof tiles peeling let alone being painted...Have you got a link to the roof tiles or a name?

I'm not really sure what the legal position is on posting the manufacturer name or the brand name of the tiles. But i think it is pretty important to have that information there for interested parties to see.
I am running a project for work where we are currently choosing a type of roof finishing for a new product. By the sounds of things i wouldn't want to use this product...
    Cheers

    Certainly not intentionally anyway ;)

Seriously though, I'd love to know what kind of paint they can guarantee for 10 years after it's been sprayed onto a roof of all things. Never heard of a process or product like this.

going anywhere? The thread is only a few days old, I don't get to my PC as much with building my house.....
The question I asked was had anyone come across a situation like this before? and what was the outcome...
    regardless of make of tile

I presume you didn't buy directly from the manufacturer. If so, I believe its up to your supplier to put things right. Supplier is probably not responsible for re roofing the house, just replacing goods at point of sale. I wouldn't accept a paint job or a discount without an extended warranty.

Pretty much nail on the head there.
