    Hi,
A friend of mine has magnet in his house using FTTH (fibre to the home)
He recently got an alarm system and the guy who was trying to install a dialer (to text if alarm is set) said he needs an eircom line in order for the dialer to work.
Does anybody know anything about this as I havent got a clue about this kinda stuff.
I think the dialer is a hkc secure watch DMC ( some sort of modem card).
    Thanks
    Sham.

It might work and it mightn't work. People have varying degrees of success with running modem connections (e.g. Sky digibox, dialers, etc.) over a VOIP connection.

The alternative is to use a GSM dialer (i.e. a mobile phone-based dialer rather than a regular phone-based dialer).

    thanks for the reply.
Is there a special way of hooking it up or something, I think my mate has tried to get it working with no success?.
Is there any forums you know of that could help me.
    Cheers again.

He really is at the mercy of his VOIP/internet connection and that's usually out of our control. I don't think there's a lot that can be done. I'm not sure where you can go for further help. Has he tried asking Magent's support people? The Blueface forums (on www.blueface.ie) are frequented by their VOIP techies so they might lend a hand.

I will check out that site, you never know.
    God bless you father.

AFAIK Eircom are the only providers who offer a SMS over PSTN service.

SMS is not available over VOIP which is what your friend has.

So the only way that might work is to have the Dialler programmed to report to a Monitoring Centre, but he will have to pay an annual fee for that.

Another option might be to have a standalone Voice Dialer fitted which will call him and give him a Voice Message. Voice would be less affected by any packet loss that might occur.

Are there no IP based alarm systems available in Ireland?
