I am going to sign up to Setanta tonight with the new football season fast approaching.
I was planning on doing it online on www.setanta.com and just entering my sky card number and credit card. Has anyone done it this way? How long does it take for the channels to become available? do you have to pay for 12 months in advance?
    Thanks

I signed up "online" today. Well, sort of.

I went through the entire process, last screen i entered my C.C. details, as required. Then I got a message saying that there was a techincal problem and my registration hadn't accepted. It gave an error number and a phone number to ring (which was the normal number for signing up).

I rang the number. Spoke to "Tim" with a Scottish accent. He told me something about a €10 setup charge for doing it over the phone, but that couldn't be waived even though I was trying to do it online. Then he got the brainwave to check to see if my "online" registration had in fact accepted and he asked me for my Viewing Card number. Lo-and-behold, it had accepted and I was viewing within half an hour or so (they said it would take between 15 mins & 4 hours).

As far as I know, it's an €18 monthly subscription which you can opt out of at a month's notice. I won't know about the €10 setup charge until my C.C. bill arrives later in the month.

Just to follow up - I went ahead last night and signed up online. It all went smoothly and the channels were up and running in 15 mins. But even though i did it online i had to pay the €10 setup charge. I opted for the direct debit option.

Interesting...! i tried to ssign up online a coupla weeks ago. Got as far as inputting payment details, but then kept getting the final screen returned to me as if there was a problem. I tried it a number of times, but each time kept (apparently) looping. I finally rang them, and I was signed up readily - and had pictures within the hour. I complained about he sign-on problem, and they said they would waive the €10 signing-on (which I understood wasn't payable when you signed up online). I haven't seen my credit card statement yet, so don't know whether they charged the €10 or not. But worse, I'm now wondering if I had in fact signed on successfully online, and will end up paying more than once.

I signed up a month ago. Input the DD details online. Signal on in 10 mins. 4 days later they cut me off saying DD bounced. Checked bank and they had taken their 18 euro. Spent 20 mins on phone to get viewing reinstated.

A week later they sent a letter threatening legal action for not paying. Muppets!
