I've got a new car and I can't hook my iPod up to the Cd player. Can someone recommend a decent/cheap iPod transmitter?

My mate had an iTrip but the reception was generally awful, no matter how much he fiddled with the frequency.

Do you use the car radio at all or is it all CDs and your MP3 player?

If so then get the iTrip and just unplug the car aerial out of the back of your car stereo. Bingo. Every frequency is usable for the iTrip.

No I'd use the car radio just as much as I would my CD/MP3 collection. Good tip though.

ive just recently gotton a car and im sick of popping in and out cds already:rolleyes: wat iv discovered is a wide range of fm transmitters which you can plug into your mp3 player and it sends the music to a designated frequency on your car radio(nifty!;) )
so i was wondering what your suggestions were?

Fair enough. Other than that I don't know I'm afraid as I don't have a car. It was a tip I found on here funnily enough, and remembered for other people who might need it.

How ? Dont really understand this ....my car radio wont pick up anything at all without the aerial plugged in , so how does it pick up an FM transmitter with the aerial plugged out ?

Only real way to get reasonable sound quality is to hook it up directly via AUX input if you havn't got one them an FM transmitter is ok..

I have a cheap one from Maxol petrol station for 15 euro and it's ok... not good but ok... sounds gets from player to speakers....

Virgin are selling a no-name FM transmitter for €12. Works fine for me.

Buddy got a cheapy fm transmitter thing, works grand... He has it tuned to the very bottom (87.0 or something?) so no interference from smelly radio stations... Occasionally you might pick up someone else's transmitter signal, i presume they have a better thing or something...

I have used the Belkin TuneCast and TuneCast II in the past, but last year bought a Griffin RoadTrip which doubles as a dock/charger and fm transmitter. The RoadTrip worked very well in my last car (Skoda Octavia) - the fm signal was sufficiently strong to overpower an fm station on the same frequency if necessary. It's not working so well in my new car VW Jetta - am wondering if its down to the antenna being integrated into the rear windscreen???

My friend had one of those and it apparently didn't even do stereo!

Look out for what frequency ranges they offer, and what radio stations there are near you. I have one that goes from like 106.7-107.8 - it was grand until Newstalk went (semi-)national and interfered with nearly every frequency I could select on the thing

You might be better off with one of the low frequency ones - at least there's no national station below 88.2 (Radio 1).
