Ok, so I've only been in the job for 3 weeks and I like working there, but I never intended to stay long, only until September when I go back to college.
I get on well with the manager which is making it hard for me to break it to her that I've gotta leave at the end of August.
It's not the type of place where you hand in a written notice as there's only 7 of us working there and it's a fairly casual/laid back sort of place.
I've left jobs before, but usually I despised the management and had no problem telling them where to stick their jobs, but breaking this news seems difficult. I don't think the manager will take it well and she might even take it personally, even though it's not personal.
What's the best way to tell her I'm leaving??? Any advice???

"Just to let you know, I'll be finishing in X weeks because I will be going back to college", where X is a positive integer. Are you completely ruling out part time or weekend work?

Why didn't you tell her you were a student? Tell her that you thought you failed your exams and had decided to leave college, but now you've found out you've passed and family and friends are pressuring you to go back. If that fails, piss in the water cooler and pinch the manager's ass.

Yeah, I don't need the cash throughout the year, because I've been saving up all Summer. If I don't work at all I can focus properly on my course and still have a good social life.

You were looking for a job and she gave you one, appreciation. You enjoyed the job, appreciation. You now have to leave the job to further your career. But this job has been an inspiration to you, appreciation. It's not you, it's me. Are you breaking up with your employer?

Go up to your boss and say if they don't give you a raise, you'll quit. If they do give you a raise, leave the room then go back five minutes later and do it again. Keep going till they refuse, then storm out angrily.

Edit: I just noticed you like your boss and want to break the news gently, my bad.

things like that are always more stylish in yer head, the actuality of puttin the thing on primin the boosters and gettin the fuel in balance, and then takin off in a straight line, kinda ruins the moment - ala Senor DingDong in the simpsons.

Eh, you did mention that you were a student when applying for the job didn't you?

Moved to Work/Jobs aswell. It's more suited to here.

Yes of course, but they expext me to work weekends and a couple of nights a week during the year aswell, which I did for my first year and a half in college and it doesn't fit in well with my lifestyle.

Well, then you can be fairly upfront with them about it and explain the whole "not having time" part of it.

I presume you mean your drinking schedule when you say lifestyle. Listen people quit jobs every day you manager has been 100's of times before. Give the required notice, say thank you for the job, say you had considering working throughout the year however the next year in college is going to be very tough and draining and you feel you need to concentrate all your efforts in to your studies. Oh and try say it like you mean it.
