Thomann starting to extract the urine?

Before i ordered from thomann i heard mostly good comments.

I ordered a bass from them there a few months ago and the neck looked like it had been bent over someones knee. The paint job was cracked right along the fret board and it was chipping away showing the timber below.

Naturally i was fuming at this. There is also a pickup switch on the bass, to which one of the clicks was dead. I thought nothing of it really, i only saw one pickup, i only expected to use one area of the bass.. the other day i was playing around and noticed a wire come out of the F-hole so when i went to tuck it in, it turns out the wire wasnt even soldered properly.. (i play it unplugged, its a hollow body).

Why am i making this post?

The singer in the band ordered a lovely black tele last week and it arrived today, so he promptly packed it into the case and brought it to the studio to use. He strapped it up played a bit, i demanded a go and an inspection of the guitar. low and behold there is a MASSIVE chunk taken out of the inside corner of the tele. Its like someone tried to bite into it. Now he has to send it back (duh) but he was 1/2 considering keeping it..

Is it me, or are thomann sending out faulty gear on the off chance that people will look past the problem out of the sheer want and need to have their ideal guitar?

I cant believe they are doing that. Another friend of mine ordered a nice usa strat, it arrived with a dink in the neck so he sent it back. The sent him out a squire as a replacement. Wtf like. When that got sent back and his 'replacement' strat was sent out, they sent him out a totally differnet strat to the one he ordered. He kept that one because it was acceptable, but it wasnt what he ordred.

Any of you have any thomann horror stories? Or are they all fairytales?

I'd a speaker delivered recently that had all the hallmarks of a bad forklift driver. A big gaping hole in the cabinet. I think most of the problems occur after the item has left the Thomann warehouse. They need to use a private courier company instead of DP.

I've ordered alot and alot of stuff from them, but several months ago I orderd a large set of new PA speakers from them, the corner of one of them was broken as if it had been dropped. Its not notcible as its a carpet cabinet, but if you push the corner you can see its been dropped on its edge and is broken under the carpet. Was disapointed a little when I saw that but have ordered since that incident without any issues. But I'd imagine stock in the thomann wearhouse must have to put up with some sort of physical abuse of transportation around and about the warehouse. I don't know, my 2 cents.

i forgot to mention that the packaging on both my bass and his tele was spotless. No dents in it.

It's not Thomann, it's the shipping companies (or "throwers") they use. Sadly, there is no freight company who can guarantee 100% perfection everytime, even UPS fling their cargo around unless it's sent Express.

FWIW I think the packers in Thomann are partially to blame, sometimes they really do a shoddy job in taping up an order and shipping it out. I've had boxes handed to me by delivery guys literally falling apart at the seems with stuff falling out

Music Store are much better at that sorta thing, and they ship UPS (best of a bad bunch) so less chance of a bogey when you tear open that box.

Someone mentioned to me that DHL (who deliver for Thomann round my parts) just use subcontracters, which is essentially any aul man with a van. These fellas dont give a ****e what kinda shape the box is in, and for me on 4 occasions they've left small orders with a neighbour

Thomann's customer service is a different beast altogether though.

I received an order from Thomann yesterday. Took 5 days to come, came in good packaging and in 100% perfect condition. Pity it had to come at 7am but that's not Thomann's fault now is it :P

Only problem I've ever had with Thomann in the 1-2 years I've been using them is when they sent me out a faulty keyboard amp. Sent it back and had a replacement within a few weeks.

I haven't had any bad experiences with Thomann, and I don't know anyone else who has. Their communication and customer service is very good too. Methinks you lot just were unlucky ;)

The fact that the neck was so big-time broken, but there was no damage to the packaging is puzzling. Could such a thing happen in transit without obvious damage to the packaging? Which would indicate you are not being paranoid in your musings about Thomann.

For what it's worth, I've had an amp and a couple of cabs with no problems, and the band has had a mixer.

I'll be following this thread with interest, though.

Happened me recently- ordered a few bits ,and a big guitar rack for my guitars. Which was in a large box. Several of the bulbs I had ordered were thrown into this box, all broken when they got to me of course. The box was ripped in several places. But..in saying that I ordered my drum kit from them earlier this year and the three boxes arrived perfect

A bit off topic but how long does it take for the orders to get here? I live in Dublin 14.

If it's in stock, a week roughly.

If it's not in stock, roll a dice and you could be waiting that many months, always being told by them it's coming in 'next week'. I was waiting close to 6 months for a guitar cab, and it came in and out of stock (i was watching on the website) 4 or 5 times before I got it. The guy who was dealing with my order just kept forgetting to ship it out (and eventually managed to ship it to Cork or something instead of Dublin).

No they've already shipped it but how many days did it take for you after they shipped it?
    Thanks

I just recieved a lovely new bass off them on Tuesday, ordered it the previous Thursday.
Arrived with UPS. Large rectangular box filled with those big airpocket yokes they love and then in the midst of it all was the bass. Perfect condition.

Maybe if you request UPS when ordering? They tend to scribble the desired delivery company on the box.

I've had my troubles with thomann before but never relating to the condition of the goods.
