    Folks,

I have the Canon 30D and the 17-40mm lens.

Thinking of getting another lens such as the Canon 24-105mm.

Do you think this conbo would work?

    It could do! Easily!

You're not planning any low light work are you?

Hmmm, I would have said that, had you not bought the 17-40, but the IS on the other lens might do you there. possibly an off camera flash though? Or the 50mm 1.4/1.8?

i have both the Canon EF 17-40mm f/4.0 L USM & the Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM lenses.
they're both very high quality lenses the IS on the 25-105 is sharp but on a full frame you'd notice some softening at the wide end but nothing that cant be handled in software some distortion is noticable at around 25mm but really on full frame
for low light a tripod with the 17-40mm is an excellent lens

Except that it weighs a kilo ...

I tried it and the 24-105 out over the weekend ... In my case I'm going for the 24-105 as a walk around for overseas travelling ... I'd opt for the 24-70 if it was not so heavy ... but I think a walk around needs to be as portable and lightweight as possible ... and the extra reach on the 24-105 will save a bit of hassle ... plus the IS compensates a little for the loss of a stop ...

If I was shooting more portriats or gigs I'd probably go for the 24-70 F2.8L ... but the Sigma 24-70 F2.8 EX is enough for me ... though I may sell it in exchange for the 24-105 ...

For my trip to India I'm bringing a 1.6 crop camera body and -

    16-35 F2.8L
24-105 F4L (yet to be purchased)
    50 F1.4

... and maybe (but I'm not certain)

    70-200 F2.8L IS with 2X TC.

I'd also like to bring the 100mm Macro but it would be too much equipment ...

But only on a full framed camera... I find it to be horrible on a crop.
