My god, what is happening i nthe world? Today, I wander in to the nearest Tesco, helping the mother with some shopping. One of the first people in there that I saw was a little kid, I'd say around 4, in a bleeding Santa suit sans beard! Now, I dont blame the kid for this, he wouldnt realise the whole corporate-isation of Christmas, but what sort of mother would really let their kid out in public in a Santa suit at this time of year? A whole 147 days before Christmas...bizarre.

Let me be the first to say Merry Christmas to everyone on Boards.ie, if this is how its gonna be(yes, one child in a costume gives me this view:p ).

Flicking through channels earlier today and QVC had tree up, snow globes and all that muck out. They were selling some snowmen decorations for the garden. Everything is worse in America. :(

Kids can be pretty determined to get their own way when they're fixated on something.

MAybe the mother just wasn't bothered forcibly removing said outfit from the child.

There was a Christmas party in my local pub there the other night!
Maybe that kid is very fashion forward or perhaps just an elf?

I was in Tesco one day and I spotted some little kid picking up a tin of beans or something meaningless like that and chatting to it.

"Hello little tin of beans" type thing.

Her mother spotted her and immediately said "Come over here, stop talking to the tin of beans, they are not alive".

I thought that mother was a b1tch. Why not let the kid use their imagination?

Therefore, I think that little santa rocked and he should be left to his own devices.

Mear, your right in a way but if that was your child and she did the same and said something as if it replied back to her, would you be freaked out? When I read your post I thought the same as the mother probibly did.

Children aren't clouded by other peoples opinions, shouldn't it be important to encourage that?

Why does a red suit have to be always associated with xmas because some "guy" is famous for wearing it? Doesn't mean no one else can wear it without being referred to as Santa, does it? It's kind of like saying wearing shorts in december is stupid because they are usually associated with the summer season, but it was fairly warm out last december/january and people were wearing shorts all the time.

That just means your judgemental. Don't blame the kid because you can't deal with the concept of the supernatural.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,739 ✭✭✭Naos

No she snatched the child away and put the kid down for speaking to the beans.

Nailz: Kids have imaginary friends all the time. Hell I used to get such a kick out of playing with a boat in a bath, imagining all sorts of wonderful scenarios.

So no I would not be freaked out, a child's imagination should not be subdued providing the child is not going to harm itself or others...

Edit: Big Daddy is a good example of parenting :)

True, santa has only been wearing red since Coca-Cola put him in it.

Hold the phone buddy, I'm sharing MY opinion here! I'm not judging the child, I didn't go saying "Oh, that kid's psyco!" No. And what on gods green earth do you mean by I can't deal with the concept of the supernatural. If by that you mean Alians, Spirits and Ghosts and sh1t I'm all up for that.

BTW did you mean what you said as an insult cause I'm pretty ofended!

Exactly. Would the OP have started this thread if that red suit had been blue(Santa's original colour)?

Oh right well thats grand, I didn't realise the mother snatch her away like that, sorry.

And I used to have the best of fun with my boat in the bath when I was a wee fella' too. Haha, the days when you could have fun with the simplist of things:p .

Exactly my point with regards the tin of beans and red suit.

If that kid thought he was the business, then more power to him.

Personally, due to adulthood, desire for the opposite sex and barriers of imagination, I'd be a bit apprehensive about strolling around Tesco in a bright red suit unless it was Halloween/Christmas.

Very true, Jayzus it's getting fairly easy to change my views it's unreal! You lads must be preachers or salesman or something! ;)

Ah, but isnt a red suit different from a red suit with all that fluffy stuff? Cos it had that fluffy stuff.

I knew that Santa has only been wearing red since Coca-Cola did it, but I would have thought it as a blue santa suit, not knowing blue was the original colour.

This mother did nothing btw, I did nothing(despite looking almost shocked at the sight).

A red suit with fluffy stuff, is just a red suit with fluffy stuff on it. Fluffy stuff is also fashionable these days while shopping. Perhaps it was purely coincidence that it looked like a Santa suit. Like you said there was no beard and without the beard, it's just a red suit with fluffy stuff.

Mmm, well even if this kid was wearing a Santa costume I'm sure it's a fairy jolly thing anyway. Like if it felt good, if it wasn't embarresing or if it wasn't ILLEGAL... I would be streaking through my town right now.

    Streaking's illegal? It's overrated anyway.

maybe Santa shaves his beard for the summer months and the kid has the inside info.

Ofcourse its illegal, why do you think the Guardi always try and stop 'em at GAAH matchs? Did you ever do it CaptainNegative?

I don't watch GAA, but I probably would've assumed because it was interupting the game.
    I guess there's a time and a place.
It could hardly be illegal if it's on private property?
As to your other question - no comment.

Don't mean to break your spirit, but Santa is like Jesus Christ and JR Ewing - A Fictional Character. Whether he shaes or not is irrelevant in this courtroom (I mean thread)!!

No, I was in Meath for a Meath v Cavan match a few years back and we won and it was have time and the streaker went on and they still got him! And you did streak before! :p

Obviously, everyone knows, no comment means, yeah I definitely did that or definitely didn't do that, depending on the context/question.
So what anyway, no need to make a big deal out of it, as I said anyway, 'tis overrated.

Not true actually. Coca-Cola didn't invent the red suit, it was well established before they used that image. Read all about it on the dream and myth destroying snopes.

Don't go beliving everything your read on snopes though. ;)
