The Wicklow Times this morning has broken embargo and announced that Deirdre de Burca has been appointed (or will be) a Senator by An Taoiseach.

They have quotables from Deirdre saying she is 'delighted', as we all should be.

No replacement for Dick Roche as a minister of course  and I'm sure some developers won't be as delighted.

    Congratulations Deirdre.

Pity Evelyn didn't make the cut

Yes under the Dual Mandate legislation once you accept a seat as a Senator you must give up your council seat

Yes. By unwritten rule the outgoing councillor can pick their own replacement. Hopefully it might be Caroline Burrell who took a very active interest in the Harbour and other Greystones issues

Evelyn should realise the error of her ways and get involved with party politics, then maybe she could get a seat on the council.

Eveyly Cawley a local greystones candidate in Wicklow during the election.

To those that are jeering her "number one fan"

    Congrats to Deirdre.
Gave her my number 1 in the general election.

Hopefully she'll rattle some cages up there.
Bad day for the wicklow co council though.
Who will now stand up to the FF/FG planning permission loving councilors in Wicklow?

Clearly never heard of political satire?

I reckon FF/FG are delighted with her departure.

    You clearly have no idea.

I don't really care about your childish jibes or your constant bickering on other threads but if you are going to add something to a thread, you might consider making it useful to other posters.

If you have something personal you want to say to me, send me a PM without wasting other users forum space and I can delete it.

Now the topic is Deirdre Deburca's apointment as senator which is great news for Wicklow. Will her she be repalced by Caroline Burrell?
