If you're not comfortable, ask your gp to recommend a non religious group.

I did my premarriage course with them.

They were very nice and weren't in the least like holy joes...sure half the people on the premarriage course had kids and most were living in sin...

I could not reccomend them highly enough, we went to them before I was married when we were looking into splitting up (we were cohabbiting at the time). They were non-directional and were not religious in the slightest. We also went to the premarriage course which was excellent.

I went to Accord several years ago when my marragie was in crisis. We were non practising RC's and to be honest at no stage were we even asked what our beliefs were or which church we married in.
Our counciller was very experienced, compassionate and no nonsense. Unfortunatley the damage had been done and they helped us in the mediation process for the seperation. I'd recommend them to anyone!

Ditto- I'd have not problems recommending them. They operate both facilitatory councilling between people, but are also one-on-one counselling, depending on the circumstances. They're easy to talk to, non-judgemental, and more than willing to take an open-minded approach to whatever presents itself. They're not holy-joes, though they do operate under the auspices of the Catholic Church. You won't be looked down upon, because you've children outside of marriage- nor will they try to indoctrinate you with any of their morals.

They don't charge a set fee either- you're simply asked to make a donation (of your choosing) into a box on the way out (if you can afford it).

They're friendly, easy to talk to, and open. You could do a lot worse than at very least giving them a shot.

The whole religious thing is to do with money and paying for it the same way your local primary school has lots of its money coming from the Church. Sounds like you should go for it!
