New Tent

Well, this last weekend included a night under canvas for the first time in far too long - Pushing on a year I'd say. It wasn't in the least bit demanding as I was knackered and had my winter Vango sleeping bag with me - I was off to sleep without too much bother. Nice to get under canvas again but I decided the next morning that my 8 year old dome tent from K2 on Talbot Street has seen better days....Cracking window panel and a sticky zip along with some shattered bungees is too much to repair for what the tent is worth.

I went into town yesterday morning looking for something to replace it with, thinking lightweight and around 2.5m2 in floorspace would be about right. I ended up leaving the Outdoor Adventure Store with the last of their Force Ten Vortex tents..... Here's the linky:

Far from lightweight, but, what a tent :-)

Best thing is the price - As it was the last one they had and they probably won't restock any F10 kit, I paid just €351 instead of the normal €595. I think that's a bargain in any mans books. Certainly overkill for my usual valley camping but I'm already planning a winter trip or two abroad anyway to put it to the test.

Of course, now I'm practically skint, and I could still do with a lightweight tent. So if anyone has something like an MSR zoid 1 or 1.5, Coleman Axiom x1 or similar for sale, do let me know ;)

Its Pop ups for me, was recently up in leitrim tenting it for a week at a trad festival, Lashed rain all week and not a sniff of water inside the tent, which is more than I can say for a lot of the other poor hewers in tents. Got mine in Milletts in Galway, Its a Eurohike, light weight but its shape when folded is a bit large.

Looks like a sweet tent alright, built to last. I'll be sticking to the Terra Nova though. Think it's about 2.5Kg all in. The 3.9 is too much to carry alone, and I usually can't find anyone to split the weight :(
