    aslan aslan aslan

i swear its all they ever seem to get to play in Maynooth. I've heard some people say the Blizzards will be playing in the LA at some stage but its only rumours at this stage

the roost does cover bands which are decent sometimes. other times they're just loud and really annoying.

The Roost cover bands are rubbish. If you wanna hear a Beyonce track remixed with some Killers rubbish then it's all your dreams come through. Thursday night bands and that disco bar have killed the Roost. I yearn for the old Roost days. The SU does have the odd decent band though

Nope, music in maynooth is rubbish.

If you were to slip in a rush cover or two it'd be something!

    Dango/lads,
......thanx for the words,,,yeahh we have a couple of RUSH covers in the mix - Passage To Bangkok and Summertime Blues they did a couple of years back, also working on YYZ, we have some serious stuff in the set and pride ourselves on full on delivery of stuff like Burn and Highway Star by Deep Purple, Eat the Rich by Aerosmith, Cold Sweat, Waiting For An Alibi by Thin Lizzy, Breakin the law Judas Priest, Lick It Up Kiss,,,etc etc...its a high level set,,and will continue to grow...possibly 2 and a half hours of music at the mo.
Was talking to the roost manager (Gerry seems a nice guy), and he was telling me he gets his bands thru an agncy, so have contacted them but not heard anything from them yet ,(they seriously have nooo idea what their missing out on yet!)....anyway,,,will try to find a way of doing stuff in Maynooth sometime soon, anyway, anyone wanna check us out - are welcome to next 2 dub gigs in slattery's capel street 16th aug and fibbers 1st september.

thanx anyway for the words lads.......ciao' amigos,....Baggio....

Ah yes another bunch of people that would rather play other poeples music. You should play the roost, maybe have a jukebox section where people can just tell you what to play. Better yet have them text you...

Laughs - good man the goat...don't worry about it bud, whatever suits ya, personally Ive seen enough second rate original bands over here to last me and you a lifetime, ,,seriously overated bands and overated musicians,,,so i prefer playing with high level players and playing stuff thats challenging, not back slapping average jos playing average music to people who really dont give a hoot anyway..so there ya go...

anyway thanx to whoever gave something interesting in answers.... goat???,,,come back to me when ya can play 3 blind mice without messin up hahahaa

I think cover bands are akin to those moving statues you see on grafton st. While you might not be able to grasp the concept that it is much more difficult to play something original and probably not as good as something well known it is clearly more difficult than the colouring by numbers achieved by the cover band.

Maybe you could include three blind mice in your set seen as you use it as some kind of musical yardstick.

Now toddle off and find a nice wedding to play.

There's nothing wrong with cover bands. If he enjoys playing the music he loves with other people who feel the same then more power to him. You've no right to **** on that. It may come as a shock to you, but some people play music for fun, and because they enjoy getting up and getting the crowd going. What puts you on such a high pedestal that you can look down your nose and sneer at people like this? No offense, but cut out the elitest nonsense please. It's pathetic.

    Thats reasonably funny,,,
,but then again,,who cares, what a goat person thinks?..embarrising i would say,,and nooo that 3 blind mice is for you, just for you haha...it has that kinda original indie feel,,,you know simple, straighforward and veryy tedious ,,oh mr.gota its sooo you...now toodle off and bore someone else coz frankly, your out of your depth...i only want to hear from people with interesting thoughts and ideas...not some tedious loser who bemoans musicians who can actually play well,,while struggling to tune a basic guitar or whatever,,as i say come back to me when YOU can actually play anything!! hahahahhhahh

    begone..oh tedious one ; ) .....

Yet supporting elliot smith and jeff buckley tributes are ok with you? What's that smell? Oh yeah it's BS...
If you've nothing constructive to contribute then don't contribute at all.

    +1 for OctavarIan

Rush and Judas priest in the roost? Now that would be brilliant! I know it's a big ask but... Painkiller too? :D

With that setlist I should see you in fibs on the 1st! Good luck with the rehersals (assuming that you already have three blind mice down i'm sure the Priest stuff should be a breeze :D)

Seen as you spoke last i'll deal with you first. Go back and read the jeff buckley thread i hardly supported it. As for Elliott Smith ones friends of mine were playing at it so i didn't slate is while it wasn't for me.

Cover bands in my opinon are boring, and just don;t do it for me. I can have any opinion or stance i like. That not elitest that just the same as you can choose to go and support then, it matters not to me. But anyone that says it's harder to go and play someone else's music than write something of your own is simply no with it.

As for what i can or can't play it doesn't matter. You seem to infer some importance in someone's musical ability, while learning someone else's work off only really takes time and practice. I don't need to prove to you what i can or can't play if you were around here for longer you'd know more about it.

Writing something worthwhile like Elliott Smith or Jeff B, well not many can do that or aspire to that and you certainly won't find it in a cover band.

As i said stick to the weddings mate i'm sure you'll make a good living off it, leave writing the songs to others. To quote yourself, it's out of your depth.
