I've seen the word nit abuse and misused so much lately... Saw it again in another thread today..

So lets iron out this important issue!!

To me a nit is a guy who only plays the nuts or close.. if he had stats they would be 16/10/x/x

    Am I right?

I am glad someone asked. I hadn't a clue and didn't want to broadcast it.

Yes, that's what a nit is. Someone that doesn't play many hands and is very very tight, almost to the point of weak tight but not quite. [IMO]

Nits are little critters you find in your hair.

gambling term. usually found in poolrooms. Refers to:

    1. Someone who's so afraid to lose a bet that they have to be coddled and convinced for an hour that they're going to have a great time and probably win, too. Eventually they may play, but by the time they get on the table the stakes are so low the table-time will eat any winnings you make.
    2. someone who won't play unless they have a guaranteed sure win.
    3. someone who'll squeeze a dollar 'til george's eyes pop out of the paper.

that guy's such a nit- he wouldn't bet a nickel that water's wet.

i understood the use of the term in flippers to be nit as in nitwit, a slow-witted, stupid, or foolish person.

Flippers use of it did mean that. I don't think he was aware of the correct term for it in this context, or possibly just didn't care.

    Valor is a life nit.

Yes I think this has been said many times, but it is very true

their stats vary between 12/6 and 24/12. they struggle to beat the rake I guess.

Stacking a NIT is a lot of fun though. It usually requires set over set on a non flushing board as they won't go broke with AA, hence why Valor bluffs them a lot.
