Advice Needed - Card Problem

I've just set my Sky system back after about two months out of action. The building management company have a "thing" about dishes and I had to take mine down. Today I put up a flat panel antenna in about 20 mins. It's not a dish, let's see how far I get with this one.:D The box is not recognizing my card, do I need to do anything other than wait. I have done a forced update of software for the box. I don't really want to ring Sky until I have to.

    Any hints, ideas, etc. Thanks.

How do you mean the box is not recognising your card?

What is the message on screen?

If, however, it's telling you to upgrade to receive this channel, then the card just needs to be left plugged in for 24 hours or so, and it'll get updated with new keys.

At the moment it is saying "No satellite signal is being received".

Earlier it was saying "There is a problem with your viewing card, ensure your Sky viewing card is correctly inserted, Call the broadcaster for assistance."

Signal test is showing strength at 100% quality at 60% to 70%.

Sky News and the free channels are viewable and clear.

Can anyone tell me the method to get into the engineer menu please? I know it's here somewhere but I can't find it.

Installer menu is Services, 4, 0, 1, Select.

    Thanks for the info.

    The situation has been resolved.

What I've learned is never ever mix up your FTA card and full sub card.:o
I've now marked them with a big felt pen.

Good to hear you got it figured. I think you have to power off between card changes and it can take a minute before it updates the new epg.
I wonder is there any way even theoretically to use both cards simultaneously or does the top slot only have a limited function?
Let us know how you get on with the flat dish. Is it the selfsat?
Im surprised the management companies arent being challenged LR&C in France, isnt that the home of egalité? errata - apologies, of course I meant "liberté"

Getting the cards mixed up was a bit emabarassing all right. :o

I've put in the new dish, it's a Selfsat H10D. I went up easily enough, much easier than a dish. The brackets supplied are generally fine for the job although I did have to add to u-bolts as the bars on my balcony are oddly shaped. The LNB is only .7db which isn't overly impressive.

I had Sky up and running within a few minutes just using the SKy signal test. I can't get RTE / BBC so I'm going to get a local professional to fine tune it for me.

I will be fighting any attempts by the management co. to have it removed. I'll keep you posted on any events.

The top card slot is not for viewing cards. It was put in for credit cards or something, IIRC, though I don't think there is still any use made of the slot.

Latest Update. The installer couldn't get an improvement on the signal, a bittersweet moment, so the SelfSat is a non-runner for RTE/BBC in the Soth of France. The 0.7 lnb is the killer apparently.:(
The only good news is the shop is giving me refund on the antenna.

I have taken advice and I'm starting a legal process tomorrow to assert my right to erect a dish.

    Marchons, marchons...

Well I think Watty did warn you about those flat dishes.
(Some day you'll prove him wrong.;)
Anyway we are all behind you on your fight. (if across the channel can be considered .....)
Maybe you can translate Spocketys template letter en francais.
Just remember a right is a right

I came across this just now, a current case/petition by a Dutchman in France to the EU Commission. I cant find a proper conclusion if there was one yet, it could be in the national courts now but from what I read it does indicate that you should handle this clearly and carefully and get good clear indication of the objections from the management company in writing. This seems to be a lacking in the Dutchmans case which is why they hadnt ruled on it from what I can see. It looks like he hasnt gone through the French courts yet and they suggest he does that first under Article 49. Then the French courts could request a preliminary ruling from the Commission. He may have gone about this arseways.

But it does restate the commissions view that as discussed in the thread
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055124066&page=3
And it does also indicate that management companies etc are not exempt from ensuring peoples rights.

I think I will add a note on this to that thread.
So for the mo it should be reordered
fraternité, liberté, égalité, ou la mort??
well maybe not that far

I have just read your post and spocety's in the last 2 minutes.

I'm not going to quote Churchill and his "We have not yet begun to fight"
I'm more of a balaclava man "We will never admit defeat, you may as well surrender to us now".;)

Thanks for the links, they are going to be very helpful.

Reading of your situation reminded me of David Sullivan's website at
http://www.satelliteforcaravans.co.uk/ which was my primer for the first dish I put up.

He refers to the different beams available - North, South and 2D, could you be locked onto the south beam? (You should have transport stream 07d4 I think).

At the end (final paragraph) he gives info about settings to help you maximise BBC transponder reception. It might be useful to you.

Can you adjust skew with the SelfSat on the wall, or can you rotate it on the wall to the same effect?

I don't know if the information above will help, having already done so much, it might be worth trying before you return the box.

    Best wishes and good luck.
