Still new to all this so hopefully you guys can point me in the right direction.

Undecided on what to get, M14 or M16 want the whole Vietnam Style look.

I know the M14 was phazed out early in the conflict but handling that m14 on Saturday at HRTA has me watering at the mouth.

Unfortunately it will have to be a clone what with cash etc.

Any idea's or suggestions? good bad or indifferent.

    thanks for your help!:D :D

The U.S. Marine Corp used the M14 in the first few years of the Vietnam war so you are good to go as far as being authentic is concerned. I'm much more partial to the M14's construction then the AR series though.

*Edit* The AGM clone M14 is very nice, one of my team has one. Good performance and lovely construction.

I'd chose the m14 myself. It just looks classy. Especially in OD.

And save up for the TM one. It's not *that* expensive... ;)

Oh fiach I meant to say your AK looks fantastic, I think Ill have to buy another AK and do the same.

Thanks Lightning :) Cost a lot of notes to get it the way I wanted it but it was well worth it.

Hmm you can get a real wood stock for the AGM M14 as well......must resist temptation !!!

It's not hard to mount, the CA one comes with no instructions but I figured it out in about 2 minutes, the only tools you need to put it on are the right sized allan key, I have a full set so I had no trouble. It will go on the AK74 and AKs74. It won't go on the AKs74U as the front barrel is far too short. It won't go on the AK104 for the same reason. It also won't go on the AK47 series as they have a different gas block that prevents it from going on. For the 47's you need a GP-25.

Adrian has an M16 VN, he was there on sat, did you get a look at that?

One thing you have to bear in mind about the M14 is its very long. It can be awkward at times. If you're at HRTA again on sat I'll let you try out the M14 in a skirmish, see if it suits you.

well as it happens i am about to plonk for the agm m14 in black...and the US army has recalled it for current sniper duties....so either an m14 or m16 is viable...

    edit..to many as it happens..

The m16 VN is on the long side too. 1050mm.

But the m14 wins at 1118mm. (That is pretty damn long alright)

Wood stock M14 with scope and bipod looks the bees knees. Will most definitely be my next purchase once my MP5 arrives.

for some reason i have been thinking about this on and off all night. i am not the vietnammy type strangely enough, more modern us army, but am looking for an m14 namely because it was in BHD ....but i digress...

i think if you want a vietnam look, for me anyways, it would have to be an m16 and those small mags...

unless you plan on a SOG armalite look..

    this might be of help

I've had a thing for the M14 since the day I first saw it. I'd kill for a fibre body version and stick a nice small scope on it, something about a 4x or 5x. The M16 on the other hand never did anything for me.

It's terrible isn't it? When faced with a choice we do they typical infantry thing, do both. Or in this case, buy both.

TBH we should take a page out of the golfer's book and hire caddies to follow us around with bags full of guns.

"Does sir require an artillery barrage?"
"No I'd prefer to take this myself"
"In that case, may I be so bold as to suggest taking some breaching charges sir"
"Good idea Ferguson, pass me a couple of phosphor grenades too, I feel like having a light show"
    "Very good sir"
