I got married there early last year (and had been to a wedding there previously).

Went off smoothly, no problems and everyone (told me they!!) had a great time.

Good point about it is that the village is close for BBs adn if you're getting married in the Church in the village (both protestant and Catholic churches are there), it's only 5 minutes away.

Bridal Suite is nice too...all in all, I'd recommend it...

I played a few wedding gigs there and the place seems really nice. It's the most haunted Castle in Ireland apparantly, so I hope you won't mind getting the willies on your wedding night (sorry, I really am sorry!).

There's quite a few cheap and cheerful B&B's within a mile radius of the Castle which can be handy for guest overspill.

Went to a reception there about 3 years ago, the main room is L shaped so you can't see some of the guests during the meal. But worst of all the floor tiles in the toilets were not sealed and there was a horrific smell of pi$$, so bad you could nearly taste it! Hopefully they have done something about it by now.
    Keep well,
    Torq

    Hi,

Went to a family wedding there two years ago. On the whole as a guest I thought it was great - great fun, great food, lovely place etc.. We stayed too and the rooms were gorgeous. The bride and groom weren't overly happy though. Presents that were given into reception went missing and after much giving out and complaining 'turned up' months later, they were told all the wine they gave in had been drunk which was impossible, they had three wedding cakes and all of them were cut and the large majority that wasn't eaten was thrown out.

Also I know people who have been there at weddings and had bad experiences with food, dirty toilets etc.. I told the bride and groom about this before their wedding and they met with management, told them abuot their concerns and I think this was part of the reason there's went quite well (apart from the problems I've pointed out).

It's a gorgeous venue, but you have to let them know you're not a walk over. Is it worth the hassle though?

I was at a wedding there about 2 years ago...and i had a great time! Food etc was gorgeous..the owner of the castle invited us into his own private bar at the end of the night and made chips for the bride at 2am as she was starving. Didnt stay there but in a lovely B&B jsut down the road...and the butler dropped us down at the end of the night instead of ordering a taxi. You'll have a fab time! :p

I live not to far from there and have been at weddings which I must say were great. It is now run by a managment company that has fixed alot of the previous issues. My only advice is to go visit for yourself.

i know 1st hand that kinnitty can be hit and miss. i would not have a wedding there. it could be great or a million things could go wrong.. i'm inclined to say the latter.. its not run by a management company, its run by the owner and who ever is in his favour at the time (this changes on a weekly basis) all staff and chefs change regularly. if you're easy going and don't mind it all going a bit crazy it would be a lovely location..

    Very true about staff changes..

Shane Lynch is having his reception there on Wednesday - you should ask him!! :)

I honestly don't think it's worth the hassle. As I said I was at a family wedding there and it went perfectly - food was brilliant, and we had a fab time. The venue is amazing.

BUT, I've heard awful reports too, and I just know that the run up to your wedding is stressful enough - do you really want to added stress of not knowing if your venue and food is going to be good enough?

That was the one thing I was freaking about in the run up to my wedding because it really is one of the most important things for guests. You'll be worrying about it anyway, but if you go with Kinnitty, you'llbe doubly worried about it because of the mixed reputation it has.

    Hi all,

I will be getting married in Kinnitty Castle this summer. I wanted to know if anybody had any experience of Kinnitty Castle for weddings as of late. We fell in love with the venue as soon as we saw it. I know that the management has changed hands since it went into receivership. So has the standards dropped/improved etc?

    Any feedback would be appreciated.

    Cheers,

    M

Hey yeah the castle is now being run by the banks but it is still an excellent venue.
I have not been to a wedding there before but i have been to the castle a number of times in the last few months. The food was always excellent and the staff are so welcoming and enviting. I was there one night in the dungeon bar when there was a wedding upstairs and when the wedding was over nd the music stopped playing the duneon bar was still open and some of the wedding party came down to continue drinking until about half 4 in the morning and they all said that they had an amazing day and the wedding went off perfectly.
