    What's the craic with these?

I've been seeing them all around the place, are they just a new budget range or what's the deal?

They do look rather pretty and come in a range of interesting colours. I was half wondering if they were a budget range by G&L but now I'm doubting it... though they do have a bit of a fender shape to them.

They seem to come with elixir strings, so a step up from most supplied strings, but it makes me wonder how much the actual guitars are worth :D

I don't know of any guitar company called GAL.

Regardless, the G&L "budget" range is the Tribute series. Check 'em out.
Btw, if you didn't know G&L stands for George and Leo, as in Leo Fender. :)

Wait a minute, you're not talking about LAG are you???

If you are, they're pretty cheap from what I've seen.

Assuming you are talking about G&L. I own a G&L 2000 Tribute and I think it's a great guitar. It is VERY versatile sounding. It has the same pups and electronics as the regular G&L's. You can get more info at :

No, it's definitly not G&L I'm talking about...

Hmmm, could it possibly be LAG? I'm nearly positive it's GAL which made me wonder at G&L until I realised that no, no, that was crazy stuff.

I've seen them in waltons (they've loads of them, next to all the SX acoustics) and I've seen them in a music shop in Holland.

Where ever I've seen them there always tends to be a large number of them, due I guess to the pretty colours. More for a kids first kick ass looking guitar market I reckon.

Damn I can't change the subject title, but yes yes, my stupidity... it was LAG guitars I was talking about... obviously me reading the upside down initials didn't help, but looking for LAG guitars and they're the ones I'm on about.

well, the problem with Lag is that they're designed by the French.....lol :D

Apparently Pete Doherty plays one... that turned me right off!

Yeah, the site goes on about how they used to be made-to-order etc etc and that gives them a smidge of credibility, but really I dunno, the ones in Waltons were all under the €300 mark so I imagine they're not great.

Lots of famous, professional guitarists used Lag guitars, mostly in the 80s though.

I figured everyone here knew of them..

Ah, these were mentioned in a Guitar World awhile back. Evidently Phil Campbell has been using them for quite some time now. Outside of him though I've never heard of them.

That would have been the original handbuilt ones. These ones are from our friends in the far-east. :)

In my mind anyways, the only good French musical instrument brand is Vigier! Awesome basses and guitars!

They even make a fretless guitar with a metal fretboard!

These lads are made out East? How East? China East or Japan East?

I'd love to take one for a test drive... judging by their list of endorsees, well, they look a bit of a go-er to get a free guitar off, might have to convince my guitarist to um, go French :p

Chinese made, the higher end ones are French made. Although apparently theyre not what they used to be years ago.

I wouldn't imagine they've maintained quality since they used to be carefully crafted made to order pieces of passion...

... and now they're hangin' with SX in Waltons.
