Irish DTT HDTV Receiver

I just have a few questions on the above.

How much is the Mpeg 4 Dtt tv equipment likely to cost in the eventual Irish DTT roll out as I have an outdoor tv aerial and I bought a £20 uk freeview receiver so I have watched the fta 4 Irish terrestrial tv channels

As sky hd cost €459 at the moment, would an mpeg Dtt tv cost from the start about €200 or even lower than that

If this question has already been answered can you put me in that direction.

    Thank you for your time

You need a card from the DCENR to be able to watch them, and a receiver with a CAM slot to watch most of them. You need to contact the Dept. of communications if you want a box and decryption card. And most likely, there will not be any left.

None are available for sale (legally anyway).

Edit: Didn't read the most important word there! "eventual". Disregard this post.

The OP is talking about future public rollout, not the trial.

Since no-one knows what form a public, National, real roll out will be, the question is impossible to answer.

But by the time they decide the equipment even for HD (without a disk & 2nd tuner, which is what adds to Sky HD price) could be under €100

Note that (from what I've seen) the HD feed is broadcast unencrypted, at least for the moment. I can remove the CAM and still see the feed.

It's still awkward because it's MPEG4, and I beleive the implementation is specific to the Irish trial (ie a generic MPEG4 HD STB may not work).

But if you can get an Irish spec Humax box, it could work without the CAM

Yes, but that is today and may not apply tomorrow. Or on a rollout. Or there may be no HD on real rollout intially, but MPEG4.

    Thank you for your views.

I think I will wait for the roll out of the DTT in Ireland to see what HDTV is available
