The guy in the ad has cool memories of being cool, doing cool things and hanging out with cool people in cool situations.

    He drinks Heineken.

    Heineken makes you cool.

I always thought the point of the last one was that our friend Rodrigo Cardozo meets some random guy and his friends in a nightclub. Random guy asks rodrigo what his name is and Rodrigo has to shout over the music that his name is "Rodrigo Cardozo". Random guy gets frustrated and just offers him a beer.

Now Rodrigo roams the world, solving crimes and shouting his name at people in the hopes that it will get him a free beer once more!

Whats all this madness about Memory hotel? :s

if you drink this beer, you'll make so many good memories that your head won't be able to store them all.

The subtext seems to be that alcohol causes long term brain damage and memory loss ;)

That's pretty much it. I like the idea behind it -- a memory hotel, where certain memories have to be "evicted" in order for newer memories to "get a room". It doesn't really sell the product in any way though, probably just annoys people.

Here are two other explanation I got which I think make sense:

1)It's something like Heineken controls the man's memories. And the hotel is in the mans head, only good/happy memories are allowed to check into the hotel (the mans memory). Maybe Budweiser allows both good and bad memories to be stored in out heads?

2)Basically because he is drinking Heineken he has lots of good memories. Because of all the good memories, his memory "hotel" is full, and the "memory hotel staff" have to kick out some old (crappy) memories to make more room for the new Heineken driven ones.

but yeah the ads are still annoying.

In one of those adverts the guy behind the desk says "You're killing us today". The first time I saw this I thought it was an anti-alcohol advert or something to prevent drinking and driving. I thought it meant that if you drink alcohol it kills brain cells.

It took me a good couple of viewings of those stoopid ads to make sense of it, crappy crappy ads...

    Drinking Heineken makes you deaf.

Totally incomprehensible apart from that. Don't know what it is about the driving licence in earlier ads. Don't get it at all at all. Never drink the stuff anyway, this won't make me drink it in the future. (Unless I got a job in Heineken)

That ad is annoying. Oh, you haven't got a waspy name so it doesn't register in my mind. Muppet.

I also hate the way they have the waitress simpering away at the central character lest we think he was gay or sth.

    The ad is annoying.

People who drink Heineken are annoying.

Who said there was no truth in advertising?

I have always found these ads a bit disturbing - linking drinking with memory loss. The one with the guy shouting makes me angry its just over used and seriously annoying.

You do realise that by discussing this inane ad, you're falling into the advertisers trap. They reason they've made it so incomprehensible and annoying, is so that muppets like us (well really I mean you) will discuss it. Now after reading Heineken about 30 times throughout that thread... anyone feel like a nice cold beer?

    Worst. Ad. Ever

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 186 ✭✭Davedubh

At least Rodriquo gives us a few seconds warning at the start of the ad as he saunters over to reception.Just enough time to turn over the channel.

Has all the classic attributes of a great ad, especially liked the scene with the guy taking the pic. Priceless.

Heino always good for pushing the boats.
