    Question

I use nero for burning movie's to DVD. It does this "Transcoding streams" thing before actually burning to disc. My question is- is it nessecary to do this? It takes ages. If it is possible to bypass it, what software enables this.

    Thanks in advance :D

if the file isn't mpg or mpeg2 format, then nero with need to convert it, which yes, takes a long time

if the files are mpeg2 then authoring the dvd first with something like dvd author might be quicker

if you're just doing straight burning of a DVD file/image, it shouldn't be doing that.

however, if you're making up your DVD first in Nero, with whatever source files you have, then burning, the transcoding is just part of the process.

it has to convert your source files into DVD format, then you can burn the created DVD.

mind you, I think the amount of ram you have, can have some bearing on the time taken, regardless of software used, filesizes etc.
