My first poker question

    First time posting, be nice...

    Pokerstars guaranteed $1.5k ($22 buy-in), 19 left with 13 to be paid.

    Blinds 300/600.

I'm mid position with 9c9d, 9.5k chips. Raise to 2.5k, called by table chip leader (30k chips), all-in from late position who just has me covered.

He's solid enough, I put him on AK, AQ or a lower pocket pair (don't think he'd push with AA-QQ, don't think he'd play 10s).

    What's my move?

Bear in mind I'm 3 hours after finishing a night duty and have nodded off twice already, my phone alarm is set in 15 minute intervals *just in case* :D

obviously call, look at the range you've given him

Should I be worried about chip leader on my left calling as well?

    I don't know, should you?

you didnt post any info on the player so as a default, certainly not. you would need a really specific read on a guy's slowplaying tendencies to fold here, given the range you put the shover on

Not seen much of the chip leader, he's moved to the table quite recently.

He's folded to a couple of re-raises from smaller chip stacks, and he's not using his own stack to bully anyone yet. I believe he will fold rather than risk trebling one of us up.

i think the range you've given late position is pretty far off. why wouldnt he push with AA-QQ? and why wouldnt he play tens?

i wouldnt raise so much pre flop.

What Tom says is right - why on earth would he not play 10's? He will be shoving all big overpairs here too. If you are correct on his range its an obvious call though, but you most likely are not

I'd the range nailed on, he'd AK.

    Chip leader folded AQ.

I called, A on the turn so I finally got to bed.

    :D

    owned.

but seriously though there's no way of ruling out those hands.

agreed that a call is ok, barring diff reads (ie big stack slow playing as mentioned above), but esp coinsidering you were falling asleep, your better taking the risk than falling asleep missing a big hand.

as regards your raise, it is the normal *4 raise, but what i find, as you get deeper in these tournanaments, if you had gone to 1900 instead, you would have got the same result, and it would have been easier to fold if neccessary. also if you are consistant with this amount, some1 may try and squeeze against you.
it has been said to me, that to pick up the blinds with QQ-AA isnt really enough if you have serious aspirations of winning the tournament, and considering your stack size and blinds - just another reason as to why i find it better to raise slightly less, as CTom mentioned

because he had AK does not mean you had his nail ranged on

It's easy to justify your range when you know what he had.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,450 ✭✭✭Gholimoli

if i raising there with given stack then im not ever folding to this action.
if it was a raise, reraise, and then a shove i would then think about folding.

as has been said the range you have given the third player is not valid at all.
he would play in exact same way with the hands that you said he wouldnt.

also as has been said just because he had AK and you said his range was AK,AQ does not mean you had the range right.
his range could have been 88+,AJ+ and still have AK.

just wondering how did you know that the chip leader had AQ
