Interesting story in the Turbine today regarding a possible split within NUJ as photographers fear for thier future. The Drogheda Independant is allowing scribblers to carry cameras.

The change has come at the behest of IN&M which owns 30% of the title whoes regional CEO says
Anyone can take an acceptable picture these days...It would be particuarly useful where reporters arrive at the scene of an incident before the photographer can

He went on to say the company would continue to use professionals to ensure the widest range of pictures. Needless to say this has outraged
snappers who are threatening to walk from the NUJ as they facilitated the deal.

While if you're a photographer you'll be feeling sour I'm slightly surprised the demarcation has lasted as long as it has. Technology is bluring technical and creative boundries all the time, maybe a deal could be done to allow lensmen to write up news events if they reach a scene quicker. I wonder what the reaction would be!

    Mike.
