Ok, i know what paintball is, but whats this Airsoft lark? I see yte have a Drogheda site opening now too, i live outside Drogheda but i know where that site is and seen as its nearby I`d be interested in going, if its fun. Is it similar to paintball? How do you know if you`re shot and what are you shot with?

Just from looking at the "Picture thread" i noticed alot of the guns seem to be like the ones in "Counter-strike", which as it happens is basically the only computer game i ever bothered playing so the guns alone is enough to get me interested :D

I must drop up to the site sometime and see what its all about.

They all fire plastic bbs. This should be heavily differentiated from the dangerous steel or brass ones that it can't fire. They are either 6mm or 8mm in diameter and are between .2g and .35g depending on what type you're using and what you're using them in. All guns have a power of 1joule or less, this is a legal necessity.

You know you're hit when you feel it. You will feel it. It's basically an honour thing, if you feel yourself get hit, you declare it.

The guns in counterstrike are based on real guns (just named differently, the Night Hawk is really a Desert Eagle etc.). I know people who have done cs themed loadouts based on what they use in the game.

Have a gander at the stickies above and all will be explained.
And for an idea of the types of things you can get, have a look at

www.eirsoft.ie run by our very own shiva
www.wgcshop.com which has almost everything you could need
    www.rsov.com and
www.uncompany.com are both popular with the guys here too

Do the bbs bullets go a decent distance, do the guns make a realsitic sound?

Depends on what you're using but if you look after your gun and have good control of it. You'll get about 20-30meters out of it.
They don't produce any "bang" noise to speak of. Just the sound of the electric motor (in AEGs) and the piston. Sounds a bit like a silenced rifle I guess. There is a new adaptor available that looks like a silencer but is actually an amplifier. Not sure exactly what noise it makes but it's supposed to give that "crack" noise you'd associate with small arms fire.

FYI, they are not bullets. Bullets kill people. These are just 6mm plastic bb's. ;) (Don't worry, you weren't to know)

They can travel 100-150 feet, but it all depends on the power output of the airsoft gun. The power output is measured in joules, and the current legal limit is 1 joule. That equates to 328 feet per second when using 0.2g bb's.

Some of the Airsoft guns sound rather 'electric', some sound more realistic (The AK's, P90 and Gas pistols to name a few)

hehe, you'd be surprised how many airsofters play counterstrike! :D Im more of a Battlefield 2 man myself ;)

As was mentioned, they fire small 6mm diameter plastic balls. They go quite fast and far, and look and sound quite realistic. That's not to say that when you fire it sounds like a real gun firing, but it has a distinct *crack*(along with the whirr of the motor) that sounds pretty cool.

If you like counterstrike and paintball, then you'll defo like airsoft! If you feel like coming up to Dublin, then theres a site open there that is active most weekends. You can rent a gun for the day and see what its like in a game. Also theres a firing range outside where everyone basically tries out each others guns, so you can get a feel for what one you want :)

    Go on, youll love it

And of course, when you say "special", you mean "skillful" -- right??? ;)
