My gf has an 4 year old JVC stereo with a 3 disc changer. The changer still works, and so does the radio and casette player. It doesn't say "no disc," and you can hear it trying to play it, then it gives up and the display goes back to the clock but the strange thing is that when she puts a particular cd it will play every single time. So the system is only playing one cd and does not like any other cd! We have tried nearly everything to fix it!
Can you give me any hints on what might help?
    Thanks.

the laser is on it's way out. There must be something about that one cd that makes it easier to read, so the weaker laser can handle it...the rest it is just too weak to

Have you tried a cleaner cd ? Not a fan myself but if there's any noticeable difference after using it then it may be worth taking it a bit further.

A relation of mine binned a 3 year old Pioneer system because of the same problem - it was shortly after she had redecorated the living room where the unit resided - she had sanded the walls and the doors but never thought to cover the stereo.

The laser was covered with dust as was one of the positioning optics. Compressed air and a cotton bud sorted it out and it's still going strong 3 years later !!
