Depends on what kind of set up you have.

If you have a SD tv then probably not.

BR has sold more players but thats only cause of the PS3. Wouldnt say its clearly ahead.

Let's not forget betamax was better than VHS...

To me it's anyone's guess at this point

There's no winner yet and yes it's worth it if you have a decent high def tv. Was watching King Kong just yesterday on my 106" high def tv yesterday and the picture was just breathtaking compared to regular dvd's

I'd hold off for a while.
I saw somewhere recently that the price is dropped in the states but also includes 5 movies.
I'm sure something will happen in europe soon. :)

    I'd wager it's a projector , not a TV.

My Xbox 360 (one of the first batches) is seriously noisy - would this drive be even noisier?

Can it be used with a Vista PC independent of the Xbox 360 (i.e. no connection to 360)?

Does Vista MCE play HD titles out of the box? Or would I need to buy some HD DVD playback software?

I do have a 360 at home but compared to my silent HTPC there's no way I could watch a DVD on it.

have you any other vital statistics you want to boast about.

is king kong the only HD movie you have? I was going to buy one to watch on my 200" tv but extravision only had king kong for HD and I see a good few BlueRay titles in Chapters now.

Nah I'll let your username do the boasting "Mr Big"

As for your Yeah Right.... I have a Panasonic AX-100 (which yes, IS capable of a 200" screen) and a Kingpin 92" (106" diagonal) screen.

I also have Constantine, Harry Potter and Blood Diamond on HD-DVD and all are great examples of the advantages of high definition playback. King kong is one of the best though which is why they gave it free with the xbox 360 hd-dvd player.

You can use this with Vista BUT you need HD-DVD player software as WMP does not play HD-DVD yet.

You can't use this for games on your 360.

    lol

I have been using the composite input to my projector Tosheba SD-20 and found it to be very good. it has 800x600 RGB input so should work with HD.
I will probably go with the HD-DVD since I already have the 360.
I am using a pioneer DVD player at the moment with optical output to my suround sound, but havn't got suround sound from my 360.

    can you get 5.1 HD-DVD?

Don't bother with a HD-DVD unless you upgrade your projector.

    800x600 is not HD.

Even the AX-100 with a 106" screen is still only 1280x720, so a 1080 line HD source will be scaled down somewhat.
