Hi all, as Chorus told me (after a week's delay) that they can't get a signal in here to my new house I will have to go down the Sky route (dish). From neighbouring houses I can see that South-facing is at the back of my house while the TV is located in the living room, at the front.
My question is - does there have to be a cable run from the satellite to the TV (or receiving box) directly ? i.e. you can't have a break where one box just sends a signal to another ?
To complicate things further, if there is a cable run, the house has a tiny attic, which may not even run over to the corner where the TV is located !!
And finally, a third question by now (!) with the TV room on the ground floor, where do cables normally go through the first floor, or are they just brought in from outside at ground level ?
Thank you in advance for any light that may be shed !

not that I'm as much of an expert on installs as some on this forum, if your TV room is at the front of the house and your south facing wall is the back, the installer will throw the cable from the dish over the roof of your house and neatly bring them through the front wall.

If your house is already prewired the sparkies would of had brough your tv cables to the attic or in some cases to the ETU box on the side of the house, the little box beside your ESB metre. The installer will bring a co-ax cable from the dish to either one of these points.

Chances are the cable they were using isint good enough for satellite/digital though

Depending on whats practical the cable could be run From the back to the front of the house

    1) Via the attic
    2) Via the inside of the house (needs a bit of care to keep the cabling as inconspicous as possible)
    3) Over the roof (As a last resort)

Option 3 requires the cable to be well nailed down to prevent it rubbing (due to wind) on the rooftiles which would eventually lead to water getting into the cable

    thanks for the replies.
i see a house nearby has the cable down over the roof, so i guess that's the best option. luckily since this all started the landlady has given me a recommendation, so if this guy messes up her lovely house, it won't be my fault ! i'm getting bog 1,2,3&4 aerial in the attic as well for all rooms (her idea, not mine) , but still waiting for my card from sky (ordered Saturday, now Friday, so hopefully today then !!)
once again, appreciated the responses - roll on the footie season !!
