Exempt from Planning - how much is allowed?

My sister is looking at putting a conservatory on her detached bungalow. I know its 40sq m of area without planning required, but where can I find this officially online? Does the extension have to be to the rear or can it wrap around to the side? any official links please?

Yes, to be exempt it has to be at the rear of the house. See point 5 here
