Seeing as in some city centre shops lucozade is close to €1.50 and is €1.70 at Heuston station, it was nice to find out that its possible to get the stuff for less than €1 in Dublin.
In Dunnes and Tesco it sells for 87c for the 380ml version, still a rip-off compared to other soft drinks, but cheaper than other shops

    Are they multipacks?

Seen in Dunnes Athlone today, sold singly and no shortage off them. If you ask one of the store staff they maybe able to sell them in an unopened box. Worth asking ;)

Can't see why they wouldn't do that... used to work in a (crappy) small shop before, the odd time people used ask for things like big boxes of taytos or a slab of cans or bottles of coke (etc.), and we used always oblige, not charge less but just 24 x €0.89 (for cans) or whatever... Does make it handy to carry though...

How do these shops justify mark ups like that when Dunnes etc. can sell for 87c. What a rip-off! Why don't the govt. do something about these chains of small shops robbing us.

because the more you buy the better price Dunnes can get.

Considering I drink about 6/7 bottles of this stuff a week, at least theres finally a place to get it cheaper. Must buy by the basket soon.

Surely Spar have more buying power collectively than Dunnes?
I thought BWG did collective buying for some of its stock, and had central distribution?

Dunnes can make their money elsewhere, where as a hefty proportion of Spars income comes from soft drink sales. They have to make there money somewhere, and id say Dunnes are sellling lucazade and the likes at a near loss due to this and also not many people would head to dunnes to get a drink...

Spar buy from BWG, so if BWG gets deals for buying in bulk they are not always passed down to the shop. also small shops have higher running cost so to turn a worth while profit they need to charge more than the likes of dunnes.
