I went down to the Mahon Falls, County Waterford this evening. Here is one of the shots I was pleased with. Canon 20D, Canon EF-S 10-22mm, f/22, 0.3 sec, 100ISO, RAW original.

    Regards,

    John.

    ooohhhhh aaahhhhhh oooohhhhhhh!!

Really impressive. Waterfalls can be very 'same old same old' but this is really striking, GREAT work. I love the composition, the thin layer of sky really works (great tones there too btw), giving over most of the frame to the subject with the falls gives a real 'towering' sense to the shot. This is just excellent.

Two things make this shot great:
The different layers to the waterfall and the clouds.
    Nice.

it looks overprocessed. you should dial the sky back a bit, and bring out more highlights in the water.

    Immediate reaction, I love it!
    I think it's perfect!

It loks good, but the sky looks unnatural - colour and darkness. And the upper part of the rocks looks like accidentaly darkened. There is something unballanced and my mind is twisted.
BUT - fantastic pictures. Wonderful composition, nice frame, nice colours. I wish there was a little less light to let you have longer exposure too.
    I like it a lot.

Nice Shot ! Composition is spot on. However, I'd be inclined to agree with the people who give out about the sky/rock transition along the top of the falls, and the general llack of highlight in the water. Particularly along the top, the water looks sort of lifeless. 1/30th second, that sky is probably almost completely white when you level up the waterfall right ? I think you need to revisit it and try and bring out the sky detail while at the same time trying to keep the transition very subtle. It'd be worth it though, Its potentially a very nice picture.

actually, has anyone tried layering short exposures of moving water? i vaguely remember hearing of some DSLR which can do this automatically; i.e. take say 50 shots, 1/1000th of a sec each, and then layer them to make one shot?
it gives moving water a slightly different effect.

Firstly, lovely shot, I really like it.

I had a go at something like this last year, with shots I took at, believe it or not, the Mahon falls. I took 2 shots, one at iso100 with a 2.5 second exposure, and another at iso1600 1/1000s. i played around with it for ages, but couldn't come up with anything satisfactory that didn't look like Photoshopping for the sake of it.

Cracking shot, and I'd be slightly inclined to disagree with the people talking about the sky/rocks problem...i think the darkened unnatural look of it gives a quite menacing, brooding appeal like something from a fantasy movie.
    Great stuff! :D

Looks kinda like lightning or somethng.
Its a cracking shot. There is a bit of a halo about the rocks (from sharpening?).
Nothing to really worry about tho.
