I have 800 euro from the sale of my amp and a guitar.

I currently have no amp but I use Amplitube of my pc to practise and thats all I need! Because Im not in a band. And prolly wont be for a good long while!

I know you always get good amp over good guitar, and in my case good amp over no amp.. lol! but I've always wanted either a MIA strat (or Jap) or a Music man! (I would save up more)

But at the same time I could buy a Engl thunder and get a 2x12 cab for it.. Seeing as I already have a Godin Radiator and Chevel Super strat!

    What do ye guys thing?

I don't know. I you're happy using the PC for your tone, then go for a guitar. On the other hand, I've always felt the need to have a proper amp. I had the Engl a year before I was playing in a band.

I think only you can truly answer this question. Go with your heart. ;)

By the way, there's a gorgeous American strat on www.chrisguitars.com right now:

$875, so with shipping and customs, probably a little bit over €800, but maybe worth it.

I was looking at that strat alright, it's mighty purdy. And to be honest, plenty of people would tell you get the guitar first, as there'll be plenty of gigs you'll be playing someone else's amp, but it'll always be your guitar.

That guitar is gorgeous, all for the finicky side of me missing the "s" in the logo saved me from grabbing that on impulse.:o Thought this looked the business too:

Looks like it's on hold now for $850.:(

Chris still has this MIJ one for $599:

If the PC is really all you need then treat yourself, you'd have some spare change out of €800 to save up for an amp further down the line if you feel you need one then.

Well I kinda dont know really... And ye arent helping me with posting those sexy guitars haha!! unfair :P

Well normally bands out of nowhere will come up to me asking me to play! Happened on 3 occasions this year! So I think maybe an amp would be the choice!

Also karl I was checking ebay and theirs a early 90's Engl Screamer for 600 euro, Does that live up to the new models?

ENGL Thunder going on adverts so, if these bands don't have an amp waiting or having your own is handier then by all means amp comes first.

Hey, you wanted help deciding whether to get an amp or a guitar, and if pictures of sexy guitars don't help then I don't know what will!

I'm afraid I've no experience with the older Engls, but you might want to ask here.

Dude seriosuly get the amp. Engl have some of the best amps out at the moment. I know you say you don't need an amp...but trust me when i say it will sound sooooooo sweet!!
    Best o'luck anyway

I'd say get some description of amp, even if its a valve junior. If you want something with a bit of zing I knocked another €50 off of the price of my ENGL Thunder and we could sort something as regards getting it to you.. Unfortunately i have to commute to work now so i need to sell my stuff to pay for car insurance :(

I'd never sell that amp otherwise.

You sold the jackson and the epi and your amp for 800!!!!:O, boy next time i see you im going to slap you.

anyway back on topic, i wouldnt really see the point of buying a high gain amp if the only guitar you have is the godin and the charvel. But then i wouldnt advise you going for a new guitar either cause having no amp SUCKS, i thought i could use the computer for practicing and i realised it WREAKED my head after a while.

my advise would be a more versitile amp, going down the laney route mabey?

You'd be suprised how versatile Engl are. At least as versatile as Laney.

Yeah, seriously. They get lumped into the high gain rythm territory, but any Engl I've ever played, you can get some fantastic tones out of. The E670 Special Edition head, for example, has some of the best lead tones I've ever heard in my life, up there with the Mesa Mark IV it's that good, and some lovely cleans and low-gain sounds.

You'll have no argument from me that they certainly have phenominal heavy tones, but that's certainly not all they're capable of.

One-piece ash and with vintage noiseless pickups. Yummy. Never even heard of this site, are they reliable? And ship to Ireland?...

    Hmmm...:p
