Dont touch them with a 2000 foot barge pole. Random products at 'think of a number' pricing. Really bad webdesign. Hotmail as a contact. Western Union payment unless your order exceeds 20000 in which case theyll take paypal? Baby Jesus wept.

This isnt even a good attempt at scamming.

Never heard of them but they're not doing anyone any favours with their prices. They've a 1GB black Creative Zen Stone for €65.50. I got one for my sister from DVD.co.uk for £25 (about €37) including shipping last week.

Legit??? No company details on the site as required by legislation. No address for the company on the site as required by legislation. €13 delivery charge. Only phone number is a mobile. Only payment option is Paypal. (Do the banks not trust you to give you a CC terminal?) Nothing special about the prices. Hopefully you'll change these things as nobody in their right mind would order from the site as is.

Where did you see all this legislation? We are a small company based in Dublin. If we share our address online we get slammed with spam. Paypal is the easiest and safest way for us and our customers, of which we have had many. As for our prices we try to keep them as competitive as possible we are cheaper than most. We are sorry some things are not as cheap as our competitors (Some Mp3 players look at our IPODs compared to the o2 store we are cheaper), we do not force anyone to buy from us. If people wish to price match they can always email or there are plenty of other ways to contact the store through the contact us page.

    Thank you

From the Eugene F. Collins, Solicitors, website
The European Directive on Distance Selling (Directive 97/7EC) was incorporated into Irish Law by the EC (Protection of Consumers in respect of contracts made by means of distance communication) Regulations 2001.(S.I. 207 of 2001). These regulations have been effective since 15th May 2001.

The regulations provide that all online businesses, or businesses which use any of the means of distance sales mentioned above, must at a minimum provide the following information before an enforceable online contract can take place.
    • Name and address of the supplier
    • Main characteristics of the goods or services
    • Price of the goods or services including all taxes
    • Delivery costs where appropriate
    • Arrangements for payment, delivery or performance
    • Inform the consumer of their right of cancellation (unless the transaction is one of the limited type to which this right does not apply, see the section on “cooling off periods”)
    • Telecoms cost if it is calculated other than at basic rate Period for which the offer or price remains valid
    • For ongoing contracts, the minimum duration of the contract.

If you're not familiar with these regulations there's a whole lot on that link you should read.

I dont know a lot about this, but our web designer has our address and phone number on our site as an image file. And the host keeps spam to manageable levels. (Not sure how, but its ok)

I had a look at your site - I'd agreed with darc - it needs a bit more info to conform with EU law.

Every website that sells things should have company registration number, trading address and contact phone number - you'd be surprised how many people will check this out. My company details pages have had over 1000 views since May and the CRO link has been clicked nearly 300 times. Personally I'd avoid any website that does not provide any details especially one that is selling electronics as there are just so many scam sites out there.

And whilst you may be the most genuine of people trying to give quite good value you have to realise that there are scammers in Ireland too! - And also many people are wary of .net & .com as there are no controls over who operates them whereas with .ie you must provide proof of trading under the particular name.

If I were you, I'd put your warehouse / office / home address on the site, VAT# & company registration # in the about us page. Also on the returns page you must allow for a no quibble 7 day distance selling return service.

    Hope it helps

    @Mhoward:

    Payment Methods
I run www.woodentoys.ie and I found that when I added Worldpay as a payment method, I saw site conversions go up. Worldpay is still not the ideal solution for me, but my current turnover doesn't justify the mimumum Settlement amounts required from the likes of Realex and chronopay and others.

    Name and Address
I have my name and address posted, as text. I receive spam to my email address, but not to the physical address. I think the reassurance it gives to customers far outweighs any risks to you.

    Image Quality
I see you are using Zencart. My site is based on OSCommerce which Zencart is based on also. I think you should consider using a thumbnail processor for your site as the quality of the small product images is quite poor (blocky). Check out the oscommerce forums here and search for a contribution called imagemagic.

    Hope that's helpful.

Me and my girlfriend set up the shop and we tried to process our first orders, we seen the paypal charges and we were amazed. In the end we made like 2 euro on a camera. So we need to find an alternative payment method. By the way I never even thought of looking at all that legislation. LOL !
