Title says it all really. Lots of shops seem to have become vacant over the last 6m or a year. I guess its something to do with the new SC being developed....

Yep, I have noticed this for the past few years. In all, I have lived in Naas for 21 years and I've always noticed a kind of thoughtlessness when it comes to town planning. In a few years, all of the shop-fronts in town will either be offices or ... or ... derelict buildings boarded-up.

We were, a few years ago, the fastest growing town in Europe. However, with that, crime has increased and traditional shops are being edged out, as already mentioned.

So much for Naas being "a nice place to shop";)

I would imagine everyone will sit tight until the new SC is developed.

I think it will make a big difference, as it will balance out the town a bit, and bring more life to that end of town.

I wish someone would go the whole hog and sell the licence for that pub on the corner opposite 'Primavera', and develope it into a few retail units. It has changed hands as a pub so many times, and they never last....

Where's this now: where Finan's used to be?

I think that the "out of town" shopping centres at Newhall and Maudlins (where the big huge DIY shops are) have had an effect too, drawing customers out of the town and making business tougher in the town centre. Keep buying stuff in the town rather than buying in Dublin or the retail parks, it can only help!

Anyone have any details on the new SC? How big will it be etc?

The new shopping centre is being built in the large carpark that was sandwiched between the Main street and the CBS.

I believe the main entrance will be one side of the current BOI building. I also believe they are knocking down Sarah Floods pub to make the junction there into a cross roads.

That pub used to be "the manor inn" didnt it?...was a great place to go after racing at naas or punchestown or the curragh,.....such a shame so many muppets had it after original folks sold it...was a gold mine,..and now look at it...it;s a disgrace in my book.
One thing the town realllyyy,,,misses is a decent live music venue....I know "Time" has its own spot for this,...but the town centre reallyyy,,could do with somewhere for bands to perform, I see soo many lads with guitars and the like up and down the town, yet theres nowhere for folks in rock bands to play,,,perhaps the old cinema may make a goood venue??..was a rumour of something like that happening to it.

Be goood to see rocking live music in Naas for young bands and estabished goood live acts.

    ciao' amigos....Baggio.....
