I would be interested in knowing this aswell. I would love to go to this. I was in South Africa in 2002 for a couple of weeks playing rugby with my school and this is the perfect opportunity for me to go back ;) Just got to convince somebody to come with me!!

You won't see anything specific on it until the latter half of 2008 at least ie. the NH off season.

The only thing you can be sure of at ths early stage is that tickets will be hard to get. . .SA is also not the best country to be backpacking/campervaning around either.

I've registered with Gullivers, wont be taking their 'full' tour. . will be getting the cheapest one I can that includes tickets. . by pre registering with them you get first option once they release their packages.

Register now for GBP 100 . .. if you decide not to go with them then you can get your money back.

In rugby terms the tour could be a disaster if SA introduce a new quota that will stunt their competitiveness.

Apologies for dragging up an old thread but just wondering if anyone has had any luck booking for Lions '09 yet? The idea is floating around in my head at the minute - any recommendations on tour groups - not really sure if this is Rugby or Travel & Holidays thread but Mods..feel free to move if necessary.
    Thanks

Five of Wales' coaching staff have been requested by Geech for the tour...Gatland (forwards), Edwards (defence), Howley (Attack), Craig White (fitness) and Rhys Long (analysis).

Massive fan of Gatland, and Edwards is, imo one of the best coaches and man managers in rugby, league or union (future England manager, no doubt) but is a full Welsh backroom compliment just a little OTT?

Well, bearing in mind that Wales have just toured SA, its probably not a bad plan and they are all used to working together as a team. Anyway, Gatland is a kiwi (who coached in Ireland & England), Edwards is English.

Besides, good banter for the Welsh when they start whinging that the entire Ospreys/Welsh team is not chosen :D

    I'd say, well done Geech!

PS - see where Gavin Hastings is backing BOD to be captain.
    Hastings backs O'Driscoll claims

Gavin Hastings has urged British & Irish Lions selectors to retain Brian O'Driscoll as skipper for next summer's tour to South Africa.

Wales back row Ryan Jones is favourite to land a position that has few other standout out candidates other than O'Driscoll, but Scotland legend Hastings believes the 29-year-old Ireland centre commands the necessary respect to get the nod.

"You have to pick someone who is respected by his peers and who is likely to have a regular starting berth in the team. For me Brian is that man," he said.

"If the Lions are to be successful this time around, you need players with strength of character and guys to lay down the law."

He added: "If you look back at the last successful Lions tour in 1997, coaches like Jim Telfer and players such as Keith Wood were excellent at laying down what was required.

"It's all about getting the best from the players and Brian would be a fantastic man to do that."
